Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller set his bonny mare Arinosa for the greys race in Cup-week months ago and she didn’t let him down at Flemington today.
Brilliantly ridden by in-form Sydney-based rider Brenton Avdulla, Arinosa charged away in the straight to win the colourful and popular Greys Plate.
Restricted to grey horses only, the Greys Plate has been a popular part of Oaks Day for many years.
Arinosa has been in stunning form in Sydney and Waller decided to target the race a while back when her form was so strong.
Arinosa has now won three of her last four starts and she started $3.50 favourite to become one of the few favourites to win at Flemington during the week.
Waller has had a good week finishing fourth in the Melbourne Cup with Kelinni on Tuesday and now winning with the heavily-backed Arinosa.
Arinosa ran away to win easily from Dash For Viz, who won the race last year, and Run Diego in third place.
Another Sydneysider in New Beginning was most unlucky in the straight coming from near last to run fourth.
