Jockey Daniel Moor claimed his first Australian stakes victory in over two years after Armed For Action won today’s Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) for two-year-olds.
Trained by Anthony Freedman, Armed For Action ($1.30) showed speed to lead from barrier six and from that point was never headed.
Moor asked his mount to quicken around the home turn and she bounded clear to score easily by 2¾ lengths.
Marble Rye ($18) fought on to cling onto second under the urgings of Amy Herrmann with Flying Skipper ($31) third.
Moor’s last stakes win came aboard Bird Of Fire in the Group 2 Queen Of The South (1600m) at the same venue in April 2009.
The last time he won a stakes race in Victoria came in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes in September 2006.
Armed For Action is a daughter of Exceed And Excel, that was purchased for $90,000 from the 2011 William Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Valourina who was the dam of stakes winners Media, Timbourina and Cardinal Virtue.
Armed For Action is now unbeaten in two starts and likely to return to Melbourne to contest better quality stakes events.
