Other Comments / Explanations: J. Mott was fined $200 for failing to provide a Medical Certificate after being given a direction by the Ballarat Stewards on Sunday 1 July 2012. J. Mott was examined by the Clubs Doctor on arrival on course and passed fit to fulfil his engagements.
G. Boss was examined by the Club Doctor on arrival on course and passed fit to fulfil his engagements. His explanation for not providing a medical certificate was excepted.
Race 1 – SCHWEPPES SV 2YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:
Faithful Mary, which had slipped over in the horse wash prior to entering the mounting yard, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.
Fly The Coup jumped away awkwardly.
Tozzetti raced wide for the majority of the race without cover.
For a short distance near the 300 metres Faithful Mary had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.
Race 2 – STATE TRUSTEES SV 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:
After being placed in its barrier stall Lourdeaux became unruly and temporary cast, was removed and examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and deemed unfit to take its place in the field. Stewards authorised the withdrawal of Lourdeaux at 11.32 a.m. and ordered the following deductions - All monies bet on Lourdeaux prior to 11.32 a.m. to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets on winner and placegetters prior to 11.32 a.m.
18 cents in the dollar for win #6 (Lost In Paradise)
9 cents in the dollar for place #6 (Lost In Paradise)
18 cents in the dollar for 2 placing #4 (Lady Antoinette)
20 cents in the dollar for 3 placing #10 (Solar Flare)
Ms. S. Naylor trainer of Lourdeaux was notified that the filly was now suspended until such time that it trials to the satisfaction of Stewards and must also be in receipt of a Veterinary Clearance prior to racing again.
Correct weight was delayed as D. Yendall rider of Zooska and M. Riley trainer, requested to view the start of the race to determine whether Zooska had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from all parties it was established that Zooska turned its head slightly to the right prior to the gates opening and as there was no outside influence in this Zooska was deemed to be a runner.
Katerina was slow to begin.
Solar Flare jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 700 metres Zooska shifted out to avoid the heels of Solar Flare and in doing so inconvenienced Poppy’s Pond
Approaching the 400 metres Pemba Nepali improved up on to the heels of Katerina and had to be checked to avoid that filly’s heels.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Katerina was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
Approaching the winning post Zooska had to be checked to avoid the heels of Devil By Night (D. Holland) which shifted in before being straightened by its rider and as a result of Devil By Night being straightened D. Holland was unable to ride it out to the end of the race.
Race 3 – BENDIGO CUP WED 31 OCTOBER F & M MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:
Amonmarie jumped away awkwardly.
Mantrap was marginally slow to begin.
Amonmarie over-raced in the early and middle stages.
In the middle stages Mantrap over-raced and got its head up on a number of occasions.
Chit Chat raced wide in the early and middle stages before being allowed to stride forward by its rider to take up a position outside the leader near the 800 metres.
For a short distance approaching the 600 metres Magic Tucker over-raced.
Rounding the home turn Roodee was held up for a clear run.
She’s Out Wha Wha had some difficulty obtaining a clear run in the early part of the straight.
Shortly after straightening Set Again was momentarily held up for a clear run.
J. Noonan rider of Fiery Jest was fined $200 for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres in a forehand manner.
A.Guillemin rider of Sirrah which gave ground in the straight reported that her mount would be better suited to races of a shorter distance than todays event.
Race 4 – TASTE OF SPRING SUNDAY 9 SEP F & M MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres:
Alpine Valley was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages Kyoto Time got its head up when over-racing.
Passing the 1000 metres Delrazzi got its head up when being restrained off the heels of She’s Ayce.
Rounding the home turn No Manners shifted out when laying out.
Rounding the home turn and early part of the straight Delrazzi was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
C. Robertson rider of Kyoto Time which performed poorly, explained that his mount over-raced for the majority of the race, more so when it was exposed in a position when racing wide without cover and this was a telling factor for the mare’s poor run. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5 – JAYCO ROAD TO FREEDOM F & M MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres:
My Sydney Rose and Splash Of Class jumped away awkwardly.
Cold Call and Smiley O’Reilly were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1400 metres Shirlaski bounded and as a result B. Knobel, its rider, became unbalanced.
For some distance passing the 1400 metres Sacred Dream got its head up.
Chrissieboo raced wide for the majority of the race without cover.
Passing the 800 metres Sacred Dream had to be checked off the heels of Rock Of Riches.
Approaching the 200 metres Amo La Nonna shifted out abruptly before being straightened by its rider and hampered Sacred Dream.
J. Noonan rider of Kiss McDove was fined $300 for using his whip in a forehand manner on six occasions prior to the 100 metres. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that J. Noonan was spoken to and penalised some races earlier in the day.
C. Robertson rider of Cold Call which performed poorly, reported that the gelding was making an unusual respiratory noise on pulling up. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than some minor lacerations to its hind legs.
Race 6 – WOMEN IN RACING MAGAZINE F & M 0-58 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
Vicarage jumped away awkwardly and then had to be eased off the heels of Heart Of Strength, which shifted out slightly, resulting in Vicarage losing ground.
Boredom and Shivoo raced wide for the majority of the race without cover.
Approaching the winning post Fomalite and Coupe Express raced tightly together.
J. Benbow rider of Heart Of Strength which performed poorly reported that the filly travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure in the straight failed to run on as expected.
Race 7 – CHRISTMAS IN JULY SUNDAY 22 F & M 0-58 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
Acting on a confirmed telephone call from D. Boal trainer of Round The Cape who explained that the mare had sustained an injury to its off fore leg and therefore unfit to start, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Round The Cape at 9.00 a.m. Mr. Boal will lodge a Veterinary Certificate in regards to this matter.
Blue Eyed Jane was slow into stride.
On jumping away Gaelstorm was hampered when tightened for room between Bond Fund and Firlands. Bond Fund then shifted in and bumped No Rhyme Or Reason.
Also on jumping away Summers Day shifted out and bumped Zindablake.
Approaching the 200 metres Gaelstorm shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced Highway Princess.
In the straight Al’s Mah Daddy hung out placing its rider C. Newitt at some disadvantage in riding the mare out.
Near the 50 metres Zindablake was held up for a clear run and had to be checked off the heels of Gaelstorm
Approaching the winning post Highway Princess was taken in slightly and had to be steadied off the heels of Firlands (C. Puls) which shifted in under pressure. C. Puls was severely reprimanded and notified she must stop and straighten her mounts when in similar circumstances in future. During this incident Highway Princess then shifted in towards Gaelstorm and as a result the rider of Gaelstorm was unable to ride his mount out over the concluding stages of the race.
G. Murphy rider of Autilla, 1 placegetter, was severely reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres on six occasions.
A.Mallyon rider of Bond Fund which performed poorly reported that the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages and failed to run on when placed under pressure in the straight. A veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
Race 8 – CENTREBET’S PICK YOUR OWN FIELD SHOWCASE F & M BM72 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
Approaching the 1000 metres Sendari shifted out and hampered Snake Dancer and Black Artois and as a result Black Artois then raced wide for some distance without cover.
Keep Eve raced wide throughout without cover.
Rounding the home turn Snake Dancer hung out which placed its rider at a disadvantage in riding the mare out in the straight.
Approaching the 100 metres Ruby Diamonds which was commencing to give ground had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room between Atlas Rising and Lucky Angel, which shifted out before being straightened by its rider.
Over the concluding stages Ruby Diamonds was held up for a clear run.
J. NcNeil rider of Comment Ca Va was severely reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres on six occasions.
Race 9 - BENDIGO FORD F & M 0-68 HANDICAP – 1000 metres:
Faith Firebird was slow to begin.
Shortly after jumping away Showabitofheart knuckled and became unbalanced.
Approaching the 800 metres Taylor’s Command shifted in away from Spiritofthestorm and tightened Daughter O’Fortune.
Near the 800 metres Taylor’s Command (S. Arnold) again shifted in away from Spiritofthestorm and as a result Daughter O’Fortune had to be checked across the heels of Taylor’s Command and became unbalanced. After taking into account the circumstances S. Arnold was given the benefit of a doubt as to whether he was fully to blame for this incident due to his horse’s racing manners and no action was taken.
Approaching the 100 metres Flourishing and Stratumotor came together.
G. Boss rider of Flourishing reported that his mount did not feel right in its action in the straight. A subsequent veterinary examination of Flourishing revealed no abnormalities.
J. Noonan rider of Spooked reported that his mount did not feel right in its action for the majority of the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of Spooked revealed no abnormalities.
D. Yendall rider of Showabitofheart reported that the filly was having its first run for nearly twelve months and although faltering after the start Showabitofheart would benefit from todays run.
Race 10 – MYJET AVIATION SHOWCASE F & M 0-68 HANDICAP – 1300 metres:
Prior to correct weight D. Thornton rider of Skitter 4th placegetter viewed the Stewards patrol film before deciding not to lodge an objection.
Candy Stripes and Starred For Life were slow into stride.
Lady Pania jumped away awkwardly and then shifted out slightly inconveniencing Starred For Life.
Approaching the 1000 metres Lady Pania began to over-race and had to be checked off the heels of Trista Rossa.
In the early stages Chaparral Lass raced wide without cover.
Rhodamine raced wide without cover.
Rounding the home turn Lady Pania was held up for a clear run.
Rounding the home turn Skitter shifted out and brushed Swift Sands.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Babel was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
Over the concluding stages J. Cartwright rider of Swift Sands, 3 placegetter, was unable to ride his mount out due to it laying out towards the heels of Tottenham Girl.
B. Rawiller rider of Candy Stripes which performed poorly explained that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages and began to improve into the race rounding the home turn, however when taken wide to the outside fence his mount was reluctant to take a tight run and for this reason did not run on as expected.

Race 9 - L. Xuereb trainer of Rick’s Lady, 4 placegetter, reported the following day subsequent to the race, the mare had pulled up very well from its run and was displaying no signs of any abnormalities.
