BRAD Rawiller made it nine wins in as many days of the New Year when he teamed with Altonio to win today’s Premier Signs Handicap at Sportingbet Park.
Rawiller, the State’s premier jockey, has ridden a remarkable 50 winners since mid November to shoot to the top of the premiership.
He displayed his signature patient style as he allowed the Pat Carey-trained Altonio plenty of time to settle and the six-year-old responded with a strong final burst to win comfortably.
Altonio, $4.40, drew clear to win by three-quarters of a length from Readings, the $2.60 favourite, with Campeao, $6, a long neck away third.
Such has Rawiller’s explosion of winners in the past eight weeks that he now holds a double digit lead over Dean Yendall.
Last month, Rawiller rode 25 winners and he’s on pace to match that performance this season.
