Calcatta's Magic Millions trip remains clouded

By Adrian Dunn TVN Wednesday, December 26, 2012 - 2:43 PM

ROBERT Smerdon is unsure if Calcatta, runner-up in today’s Joe Brown Plate at Caulfield, will progress to next month’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Smerdon said the performance of Calcatta, beaten three and a quarter lengths, didn’t enlighten any decision whether the filly will take her place in the $2 million race at the Gold Coast on January 12.

Calcatta, the $1.90 favourite, took a trail behind Montsegur, but was unable to make any impression in the run home.

“You would like to think you would come here and win comfortably and go to the (Magic) Millions,” Smerdon said.

“She has enough money to get in, she is probably looking for 1200 metres now. You don’t have to commit just yet, you keep watching what unfolds.

“Luke (Nolen) said he thought he was the winner on the bend, but the thing in front just quickened again.”
