Other Comments / Explanations: All horses entered in the jumping races today were inspected by Racing Victoria’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to running.
Race 1 – HEYWOOD HORSE & COUNTRY MAIDEN HURDLE - 3200 metres: MANCUSO lost its off fore shortly after the start.
HARLOW jumped the first hurdle awkwardly, shifted out and brushed TAKE OUT resulting in HARLOW becoming unbalanced.
MOSSDALE and TELESMON both jumped the fourth hurdle awkwardly.
HARLOW and GROENENBOOM both jumped the sixth hurdle awkwardly.
At the sixth and eight hurdle AIGLON and DASHDAN both jumped awkwardly. AIGLON then shifted in and hampered DASHDAN.
DASHDAN jumped the second last awkwardly.
MOSSDALE and MANCUSO both jumped the last awkwardly.
BORAT was eased out of the race and did not negotiate the final obstacle. BORAT will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel for assessment.
Trent Wells, rider of AIGLON, which performed below market expectations could offer no excuse for the poor performance other than AIGLON may have failed to stay. A subsequent veterinary examination of AIGLON revealed no abnormalities.
Braidon Small, rider of TELESMON (winner of the race) was fined the sum of $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post under the provisions of AR 137(C).
Race 2 – HEYWOOD STOCKFEEDS 0-62 HIGHWEIGHT HANDICP - 2000 metres: WAYWARDSHOT jumped away awkwardly resulting in its rider, John Allen, becoming unbalanced.
In the early stages KULAX got its head up when over racing.
In the middle stages KING OLIVER raced wide without cover.
On straightening DASHING MOULAH (Martin Kelly) shifted out to improve its position and in doing so inconvenienced LOVE OR GOLD. M. Kelly was reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
In the early part of the straight KING OLIVER hung in under pressure.
Brad McLean, rider of OUTLAW IDACASH, which performed below market expectations could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than he believes that the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A subsequent veterinary examination of OUTLAW IDACASH revealed no abnormalities.
The track was downgraded to a heavy 8 at 12.27p.m.
Race 3 – LIFE MEMBERS MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1200 metres: Jeffrey Searle, Trainer of KENTON KNAVE, was fined $100 for failing to produce the Identity Card when KENTON KNAVE was having its first start for the Stable.
PRINCESS D’ORSAY broke through the front barrier and cantered a short distance before being restrained by its rider. PRINCESS D’ORSAY was examined at the barrier and passed fit to run.
BOY ABOUT TOWN was slow to begin.
GLENELM and SUNLIST both raced wide without cover.
Over the concluding stages PRINCESS D’ORSAY laid in under pressure.
On straightening LUBIN GIN FIZZ shifted in away from GLENELM.
Paul Marks, rider of SUNLIST, which performed poorly believed that SUNLIST may not have handled today’s track conditions. A subsequent veterinary examination of SUNLIST failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4 – HEYWOOD HARDWARE MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1200 metres: Correct weight was delayed due to Christine Puls, rider of SUNBURST, viewing the Stewards’ Patrol Videos of the back straight. After viewing the videos C. Puls did not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared.
On jumping away DELZARATZE was hampered when tightened for room between ELSANDZ which was taken in by JUNOOD and MASLIN MAID which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
POPPA TOM was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres DELZARATZE had to be eased when tightened for room by SACRED FORCE which shifted in away from SUNBURST which shifted in slightly.
In the early and middle stages BARELY A GLASS got its head up when over racing.
In the middle stages JUNOOD and ROMA MAXINE raced wide without cover.
Near the 100 metres SACRED FORCE had to be checked when tightened for room by DELZARATZE who was in turn taken in by ELLO OLLI (Kane Post) who shifted in when not sufficiently clear. K. Post was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that at the latter part of the interference DELZARATZE shifted in away from ELLO OLLI.
Race 5 – POT-A-ROUND STEEPLECHASE - 3800 metres: At the third fence IGUAZU was tightened for room between DINNA LATAR and GRAVITAS which was in turn taken in by SEA TOWN which shifted in after jumping the obstacle.
Shortly after jumping the eighth obstacle FIELDING DRIVE (NZ) slipped and dislodged its rider, Tommy Logan. FIELDING DRIVE (NZ) will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel for assessment.
With approximately 400 metres to run GRAVITAS slipped and almost dislodged its rider, Trent Wells.
RUSKY YA YA was eased out of the event and did not negotiate the final two obstacles. RUSKY YA YA will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel for assessment.
Race 6 – WOODROWE TREE TECH.0-68 HANDICAP - 1200 metres: I’M SMOKING jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and hampered MELETE.
CASUAL WILL raced wide without cover.
Near the 800 metres CONIDEL shifted out slightly and took KAPTAIN KOSMOS out off its course. As a result of this KAPTAIN KOSMOS was posted wide without cover.
COLLA VOCE was held up rounding the home turn.
Race 7 – WOOD WINE & ROSES HEYWOOD CUP - 1800 metres: Geoff Withers, Trainer of ENGINEERED, was fined the sum of $50 for his late notification of rider.
Nikita McLean, rider of KAARMA (NZ) (4 place getter), viewed the Stewards’ Patrol Videos with a view to lodging an objection on the grounds of alleged interference in the straight. After viewing the available footage N. McLean and the Stewards did not proceed with the objection and correct weight was declared.
ENGINEERED jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 1400 metres SHINY BUTTONS raced in restricted room between KAPU STAR and BRUNELLO which was in turn taken in slightly by PHIZUP.
THE FONZ (NZ) raced wide without cover.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight GOTTINO (NZ) was held up.
Near the 200 metres TUSCAN RANGER shifted in and brushed KAARMA (NZ).
Carryn Downie, rider of ENGINEERED, was severely reprimanded for using the whip on a horse out of contention under the provisions of AR 137A (4) (c).
Susan Murphy, Trainer of HASTA LA SHAMER, was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR 141 A9(1) for presenting HASTA LA SHAMER on course in race plates which were not up to race industry standards.
Race 8 – PRESIDENT 0-62 HANDICAP (1) - 1400 metres: QUICK SCENT jumped away awkwardly.
GATALISTIC raced wide without cover.
LUNAR NOVA was unable to obtain a clear run until passing the 200 metres
When questioned into his riding of LUNAR NOVA Adrian Patterson stated that he was instructed to allow the gelding to settle in the early stages of the race. Rounding the home turn LUNAR NOVA had a tendency to lay in under pressure and for this reason A. Patterson attempted to ride LUNAR NOVA for luck in the straight rather than taking a run to the outside of the field and being caught excessively wide rounding the home turn. A. Patterson further stated that LUNAR NOVA did run on well, however he did have some difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight.
Kane Post, rider of GATALISTIC, which performed poorly could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A subsequent veterinary examination of GATALISTIC revealed no abnormalities.
Holly McKechnie, rider of GOD HELP US, which performed below market explanations believes that GOD HELP US may not have been suited to today’s heavy track conditions. A subsequent veterinary examination of GOD HELP US failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 9 – HARVEY WORLD TRAVEL PORTLAND 0-62 HANDICAP (2) – 1400 metres: The start of the race was delayed due to WARWARICK having to be re-shod.
Sam Turner, Trainer of ROCK STAR BABY, was fined the sum of $100 for failing to produce the Identity Card when ROCK STAR BABY was having its first start from the Stable.
On jumping away GAUSS had to be checked when tightened for room between TWO KINGS and PUZZLEMAN which was taken out by OCEANS OF GOLD which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
HAY BOB got its head up when over racing in the middle stages.
MISSIONARY MAN and ROCK STAR BABY raced wide without cover.
Near the 500 metres TWO KINGS had to be steadied when tightened for room between WARWARICK and PUZZLEMAN (Kane Post) which shifted out slightly. K. Post was notified was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Dean Yendall, rider of TWO KINGS, which performed below market expectations could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than he believed TWO KINGS could not handle today’s heavy track conditions.
