Other Comments / Explanations:

Stewards permitted B Class apprentice J Londregan to ride at today’s metropolitan race meeting.

Race 1LEGATEE ERIC BAKER PLATE - 1000 metres:

The start was delayed approximately three minutes when Blue Palace became fractious in the barriers, was examined by the RV veterinary surgeon and proved difficult to reload.  Mr B Rouge-Serret, representing trainer Mr D Hayes, was advised that the filly must compete in a jump out to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

All Ruby, which was very fractious in the barriers, then jumped away quite awkwardly making contact with the hindquarters of Ode.  A short distance later All Ruby had to be steadied off the heels of Ode which continued to shift in.

Kiss A Rose was slow to begin.

L Currie (Patricia Dawn) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that approaching the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Louvre Lady and at the same time easing his mount resulting in Louvre Lady having to be checked and shift out to avoid the heels of Patricia Dawn.  L Currie had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at the conclusion of the day meeting on December 15 and to expire at midnight December 23, a total of twelve race meetings (three city, nine country).  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the careless riding was in the mid-range.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Blue Palace was unable to improve its position when held up until inside the 200m.

J Noonan (Louvre Lady) was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care after permitting his mount to shift in passing the 200m, tightening the running of All Ruby and Ode, and advised that he should have made a greater effort to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

A post race veterinary examination of Apamene revealed no abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of All Ruby revealed the filly had sustained a small cut to its near fore cannon.

Race 2LEGATEE RON FOSKETT PLATE - 1800 metres:

Lounge was slow away.

Eight Grand Boys raced wide without cover from the 1000m.

Rounding the home turn Eight Grand Boys, which was under pressure, hung out and got unbalanced.

Cooldini layed out under pressure in the straight.

Race 3LEGATEE BRIAN “LUCKY” LUSCOMBE PLATE - 2000 metres:

The start of the race was delayed three minutes when the barriers had to be moved into position, given the position of the rail today which was out 14m.

In the straight Streets Of Seattle shifted out under pressure.

Apprentice C Schofield (Fiesole) was of the view that the mare needs to have her runs spaced more.  A post race veterinary examination of Fiesole revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4KS ENVIRONMENTAL HANDICAP - 1440 metres:

Our Skeeta was slow to begin.

Finishing Card raced wide without cover and then inside the 100m B Rawiller dropped his off side rein.

Haussmann lost its near fore plate during the event.

Our Skeeta weakened over the concluding stages.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Our Skeeta revealed no abnormalities.

D Dunn (Sherwood) said that his mount pulled up distressed.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Sherwood revealed no abnormalities.

G Boss (Kitty Cotswold) said that his mount is better suited on softer tracks and did not handle today’s firm conditions.  A post race veterinary examination of Kitty Cotswold revealed no abnormalities.

L Nolen (Genuine Spin (NZ)) said his mount over-raced which was detrimental to its performance today.

Race 5MELBOURNE LEGACY CHRISTMAS PLATE - 1440 metres:

Maglissa (winner) missed the start.

N Hall (Royal Chassis) was issued with a severe reprimand for applying undue pressure on Honourable Miss mid race,  in an effort to gain a position one off the fence behind Mrs Hadlee thereby forcing Honourable Miss to a position on the running rail near the 1200m.  N Hall was advised that had the degree of interference been any worse, he may well have faced a charge for causing interference.

Passing the 1000m Potiche had to be checked, after being restrained for some distance, to avoid the heels of Royal Chassis.

Also near the 1000m Evens, which was over-racing, had to be checked to avoid the heels of Vicario.

Wokpool raced wide without cover.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Perfect Offering was unable to improve its position when held up until passing the 300m.

Apprentice T Sadler (Precocious Ness) explained that when Vicario raced up outside his mount in the early stages this had a detrimental effect on his mount’s performance.  A post race veterinary examination of Precocious Ness revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6THE LISTER PLATE - 1000 metres:

The start of this race was delayed three minutes when the tongue tie had to be replaced on Spirited Addition.  Spirited Addition was then fractious in the barriers and was subsequently withdrawn on veterinary advice at 4.43pm.  Stable representative Mr B Rouge-Serret was advised that Spirited Addition must compete in a jump out to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.

All monies invested on Spirited Addition to be refunded.  Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 4.43pm: 5 cents in the dollar for the Win (Don’t Wake Me), 7 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 5 cents in the dollar for second place (Red Rain) and 6 cents in the dollar for third place (Unique Quality).

Passing the 800m Champagne Shisha had to be eased when tightened for room between Sound System and Bossdon City, both of which shifted ground.

Near the 700m Pakari Toa (NZ) shifted out and bumped Great Man.  Great Man was under pressure from that point on.

After passing the 600m Don’t Wake Me had to be eased when disappointed for a run between Champagne Shisha and Red Rain, both of which shifted ground.

Near the 200m Champagne Shisha shifted in and bumped Pakari Toa (NZ) which was commenced to give ground.

Bossdon City lost its near fore plate during the running of the race.

L Nolen (Pakari Toa (NZ)) reported that in his view the gelding choked down during the event.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Pakari Toa (NZ) revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7CRAIG’S ROYAL HOTEL PLATE - 2000 metres:

The start of this race was delayed three minutes due to a combination of having to put the barriers in place given the rail position today, and Starkiato got its back leg between the back gates and subsequently was ruled unsuitable to race but the RV veterinary surgeon and was subsequently a late withdrawal at 5.22pm.  In all the circumstances of this particular case no direct action was taken against Starkiato.

All monies invested on Starkiato to be refunded.  Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 5.22pm: 10 cents in the dollar for the Win (Fortunefivehundred), 7 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 12 cents in the dollar for second place (Campeao), 10 cents in the dollar for third place (Te Karaka) and 11 cents in the dollar for Doubles bets.

L Currie (Jileks Spur) was issued with a severe reprimand for making heavy contact with Trebbiano on several occasions between the 1800m and the 1400m in an effort to gain a position one off the fence and force Trebbiano to a position on the running rail.

J Mott (Te Karaka) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being that after passing the 600m he angled for a run to the outside of Trebbiano and to the inside of Spurring Success where there was insufficient room to do so and as a result from the 600m to the 500m he shifted out making contact with Spurring Success, forcing that horse out across the heels of Jileks Spur resulting in Spurring Success being checked.   J Mott had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at the conclusion of the day meeting on December 15 and to expire at midnight December 23, a total of twelve race meetings (three city, nine country).  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the careless riding was in the mid-range.

Stewards adjourned the matter of D Yendall’s (Cheerful Jury) amount of whip use to a date to be fixed.

L Nolen could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of Lost Faith.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Lost Faith revealed no abnormalities.

A McCabe (Trebbiano) said that his mount was unable to display its early normal speed given the step up in class.
