DEBUT winner Charles In Charge is likely to head to Adelaide for next month’s $100,000 Magic Millions Classic.
Trainer Anthony Freedman said the Morphetville race on Adelaide Cup day - March 11 - was a definite consideration after Charles in Charge coped with the heavy track to win the Mitavite Handicap at Sportingbet Park today.
Freedman said Charles In Charge, a $50,000 yearling, had taken time and gelding before he reached the track.
He noted that the youngster had proved a “bit of as handful” before he had been gelded.
“We didn’t push him. I thought he did a pretty good job today,” Freedman said.
Charles In Charge, the $3.30 favourite, scored by one and a quarter lengths from Talbina, $51, with a short head to Epic Saga, $4.60, third.
Craig Williams described Charles In Charge as a “lovely horse”, but queried whether he was entirely happy in the ground.
“I thought when we got the run and after they didn’t go fast and what I saw of him at Werribee that he was going to put them away pretty comfortably,” Williams said.
“But he took a bit of riding. I think he has a nice future.”
