Clarry says Oaks win special

Veteran Sydney trainer Clarry Conners described his $1 million Crown Oaks win with Dear Demi at Flemington today as very special.

Dear Demi is owned by Conners’ old mate, John Singleton, and it’s the long association that made this Group 1 win even more special.

“John and I have been together for a very long time and this is special, very special,” Conners said.

“She’s been there for the last prep and a half and raced in all the big races.

"Most of the time she’s had no luck. This is her seventh run this prep and she just keeps getting better.

"I set her for this race six months ago and she has stepped up to the plate every time asked her too,” Conners said.

“I’m very lucky to be training this filly and I’m thankful she is owned by John and his team.”

Perhaps the final candle on the cake for Conners was the fact his wife Maree celebrated her birthday today.
