CLEVERDUDE is “spot on” for Saturday’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy said Clevadude impressed with a strong gallop the Gold Coast way at Caulfield yesterday.
“The horse is spot on. He had a strong gallop on Saturday, it’s quite possible I might not gallop him again,” Hore-Lacy said.
“We’ll just trot and canter him around and give him a swim. He might do a little bit of evens on Thursday, I’ll decide when the time comes.
Clevadude worked on the inside grass at Caulfield, which Hore-Lacy said is tighter than the Gold Coast track.
“He didn’t hang one little bit. It was like he had been doing it all his life,” Hore-Lacy said.
“And, he flattened out his last furlong (sic 200 metres) - I couldn’t time him because the markers are all different when they’re going the other way, but he was going pretty quick.”
Clevadude, rated by Sportsbet.com.au as the $3.60 favourite, will fly on Tuesday night to the Gold Coast.
Hore-Lacy noted that while Clevadude is a “brilliant beginner” Tuesday’s barrier draw remained crucial.
“It’s always nice to draw somewhere near the fence,” he said.
“If he begins like he did last time - (Moonee Valley, December 29) - well, he just flew out of the gates.”
