BART Cummings, searching for a 14th Australian Cup, has nominated former UK stayer Dare To Dream for the $1 million Group 1 race.
Dare To Dream and, ironically, the Chris Waller trained Kelinni, which defeated him in the Lexus Stakes on Derby Day, are the sole early entries for the Australian Cup.
Entries for the March 9 race close at noon on Tuesday.
Cummings, looking for a ninth Newmarket Handicap winner, has entered Goldstone while West Australian Luckygray, winner of the Group 1 Kingston Town, are among the early nominations for the country’s most prestigious sprint.
Newmarket Handicap nominations close also on Tuesday.
Paul Snowden said it’s unlikely that Caulfield Guineas placegetter Epaulette, Sandown Guineas winner Tatra or Sandown Guineas placegetter Proverb will head to Melbourne for the Australian Guineas.
Snowden said Epaulette, Tatra and Proverb would race exclusively during the Sydney carnival.
He said Albrecht, winner of the Up And Coming Stakes and runner-up behind Epaulette in the Golden Rose, would be the stable’s main Australian Guineas contender.
Snowden said Albrecht, which hasn’t raced since finishing second behind Kabayan in the Stan Fox, would run first-up in the Listed Manfred Stakes (1200 m) at Caulfield on February 2.
