TUESDAY’S meeting at Echuca will have an early start to help deal with the forecast scorching temperature.
With 40C predicted, Racing Victoria, after consultation with industry stake holders, today moved the start of the eight race card from noon to 11am.
RV General Manager of Racing, Greg Carpenter said the decision followed a review of Friday’s meeting at Wangaratta.
Carpenter said it was felt that everyone - horses, jockeys and staff - would be best served by the earlier start.
“With 40 C forecast it was decided the meeting would be safely conducted if we started at 11am,” Carpenter said.
There will be 30 minute gaps for the first five races with 35-minute intervals for the last three races.
The earlier start was particularly welcomed by the Victorian Jockeys Association which campaigned strongly for the early start given the trying conditions endured at Wangaratta.
