Race 1Echuca Newsagency SV 2yo maiden plate - 1000 metres: 

Kona Breeze jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and brushed the inside gate of its barrier stall. 

Big Syd raced wide and without cover throughout. 

Kona Breeze had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn and raced greenly in the home straight. 

D Smith rider of Big Syd which performed below market expectations explained that the colt raced greenly throughout and in his opinion may race better as a gelding. 

Race 2echuca cih sales and servicemaiden PLATE - 1400 metres: 

Prior to the running of the race Con Kelly trainer of Arabian Storm advised the Stewards it was his intention to have the gelding ridden in a more forward position should circumstances allow.  Arabian Storm began well from an inside barrier and settled behind the leader. 

Rusty Corn and Brill (NZ) jumped away awkwardly 

Sky Host layed in under pressure after passing the 200m. 

M Allen rider of Sky Host which performed below market expectations explained that in his opinion the gelding was feeling the affects of recent racing.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Sky Host revealed no abnormalities. 

Race 3moama rsl0-62 handicap - 2100 metres: 

Perisher Blue was slow to begin. 

Glenthorn Avenue made the crossing approaching the 1600m awkwardly and shifted out and hampered Perisher Blue as a result. 

Near the 900m Perisher Blue commenced a run three wide and approaching the 800m was inconvenienced when taken out off its course by Glenthorn Avenue which shifted out. 

Rounding the home turn and until the early part of the straight Portland Success (NZ) was held up when unable to obtain clear running. 

Omar Ay rider of Haiti was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR.137(a), the careless riding being that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Portland Success (NZ) resulting in that gelding being tightened in onto Balmain Street which had to be checked.  Portland Success (NZ) was hampered as a consequence.  Omar Ay’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight January 9, 2013 and to expire at midnight January 21, 2013.  (14 meetings, 3 metropolitan, 11 provincial).  In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account Omar Ay’s record and deemed the incident to be in the mid range. 

Dean Yendall rider of Jaja Malu which performed below market expectations explained that in his opinion the gelding was feeling the effects of recent racing.  Trainer Gary Shearer also felt that the gelding had now come to the end of his preparation.  A post race veterinary examination of Jaja Malu revealed no abnormalities. 

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on Balmain Street, Rebecca Williams the mare’s rider explained she was instructed to settle the mare in a more forward position with cover should circumstances allow.  She added that after beginning well and rather than being caught wide she allowed her mount to stride forward and take up the lead. Trainer Daryl Archard confirmed these instructions, however added that he was surprised to see the mare lead the field.  Daryl Archard was reminded of his obligations under the Rules with respect to notifying of any significant change of tactics. 

Race 4betfair maiden plate - 1300 metres: 

Heath Connors trainer of Increase was fined the sum of $200 for failing to produce the document of description for the mare.  Heath Connors was also fined the sum of $100 for late notification of Craig Robertson as rider of Increase. 

Snipper Gem was slow to begin. 

In the early and middle stages Increase had a tendency to overrace. 

Both Before All and Bungy raced wide and without cover throughout.  \

From the 500m and until approaching the 200m Snipper Gem was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. 

Near the 400m Snipper Gem whilst held up had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Bourbon King.

Rounding the home turn Commander Bond had some difficulty obtaining a clear run. 

Both Bungy and Delglayse layed in under pressure in the straight. 

Near the 200m Bourbon King when laying in had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Commander Bond. 

Approaching the 100m Commander Bond was disappointed for a run to the inside of Cheers For Beers and as a result had to be steadied to avoid that filly’s heels.

Approaching the winning post Delglayse had to be eased when tightened for room between Commander Bond and Before All.   

A post race veterinary examination of Before All revealed no abnormalities. 

A post race veterinary examination of Master Troll which performed poorly revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal recovery rate. 

Subsequent to the race the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Ferocious One was suffering from the Thumps. 

Race 5ADD PRINT BM72 HANDICAP - 1300 metres:

Cougat King was slow to begin. 

Leveraction had a tendency to overrace in the early stages. 

In the straight Leveraction hung in and as a result John Keating the gelding’s rider was obliged to stop and straighten his mount over the concluding stages. 

Race 6MOAMA BOWLING CLUB 0-62 HANDICAP - 1200 metres: 

Trainer D Hayes was fined the sum of $30 for use of club colors on Ransom Moment. 

The start of the race was delayed as Hai Lil had to be replated upon arrival at the barriers.

She’s Got Grunt jumped away awkwardly. 

Hai Lil was marginally slow to begin and was then unable to muster sufficient early speed and maintain contact with the field. 

Ransom Moment was momentarily held up rounding the home turn. 

Chad Schofield, rider of Ransom Moment, was severely reprimanded for using his whip in two consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m. 

Ransom Moment lost its near fore plate during the running of the race. 

Race 7BOOK NOW FOR ECHUCA CUP 10 MARCH 0-58 HANDICAP - 1600 metres: 

Con Kelly trainer of Hold That View was fined of $50 for presenting the gelding in the mounting yard in incorrect gear. 

Hold That View raced three wide and without cover throughout. 

Approaching the 800m Hold That View momentarily shifted in and made contact with Indexes. 

Near the 200m Somebody’s Image obtained clear running between Sir Cohen and Wurood and in doing so brushed Wurood which was momentarily inconvenienced. 

Over the concluding stages Wurood raced tight between Somebody’s Image and Indexes which when laying in, shifted in slightly.   As a result Wurood went to the line without being fully tested by its rider C Schofield. 

Race top tote plus f&M 0-62 handicap - 1600 metres: 

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Craig Arrowsmith, racing manager for Michael Kent who explained that they had attempted to scratch Reflect on Stable Assist by the prescribed time.  Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Reflect at 10.00am.  Stewards accepted the explanation offered on this occasion and for this reason took no further action.

Deep Forest (NZ) was slow to begin.

In the middle stages Chancery Downs when overracing layed out. 

Sacred Dream when overracing near the 1000m got its head up when being restrained to avoid the heels of Chancery Downs. 

Chacella layed in in the straight. 

Approaching the winning post Chacella shifted out and inconvenienced Why Mallan. 

After passing the winning post Deep Forest (NZ) accidentally clipped the heels of Shibetsu, knuckled severely and dislodged its rider Jordan Childs.  Deep Forest (NZ) underwent a veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.  Jordan Childs was examined by the Club’s Doctor who reported no serious injuries.
