Exciting young stayer Ethiopa has gone to the spelling paddock injury free and “issue-free” according to his astute trainer, Pat Carey.
“He’s gone to the spelling paddock in good order and with no issues. I can tell you we’re really happy with him,” Carey told TVN this morning.
Ethiopa ran last in the Melbourne Cup following his eye-catching fourth in the Cox Plate.
He received lacerations on the buttock at the start of the Melbourne Cup but they have not caused any lingering problem.
Carey said he was going to sit down this week with the owners and work out what sort of preparation they would give the horse during the autumn.
“We’ll work out this week what to do with him in the autumn, but obviously he’ll be a Melbourne Cup horse again next Spring," Carey said.
At just his fourth start in a race last autumn Ethiopia came from last to win the $1.5 million ATC Derby and even now he has raced just eight times.
