CRAIG Newitt said beaten favourite Fast And Free jarred up on the Caulfield track when he failed in a heat of the Swettenham Stud Summer Championships.
Fast And Free, backed from $2.40 to $2.25 favourite, finished seventh after appearing to be jogging on the home turn.
Newitt told stewards that Fast And Free that he thought the horse would “win by panels” in the run.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been on one that travelled like that,” Newitt said.
“He jarred up really badly. The last 100 metres he staggered all over the joint.’
Caulfield’s track, which started as a Dead 4 and was upgraded to a Good 3, finished as a Good 2 for the final two races
