Riding Changes / Jockey Information

Other Comments / Explanations:

Ten riders were today required to provide a urine sample for analysis for banned substances in accordance with AR81B.

Race 1NEW YEAR HANDICAP - 1200 metres:

After arriving on course Double Dee was examied by the RV veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.  Stewards also received a veterinary clearance from Dr R Kent, who had examined Double Dee in the week prior to today’s meeting, as the filly had been diagnosed with an upper respiratory condition on Satuday December 29.  This condition has been treated since Saturday and trainer Mr J Warren was also of the view that the filly was fit to run.

Star Impulse, Spirit Of Soul and Extreme Impact all jumped awkwardly.  Shortly after this Spirit Of Soul was hampered byExtreme Impact which shifted out.

Winta Chiller was slow to begin (one length).

Near the 1000m Mariposa Lily was steadied when tightened for room between Schussing and Summer Gem which both shifted ground.

Spirit Of Soul hung in.

Passing the 200m Summer Gem was disappointed for clear running between Nadeem Lass and Double Dee which was shifting out. When obtaining a run between these two horses approaching the 100m, Summer Gem was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of B Melham (Double Dee).

D Thornton (Mariposa Lily) was severely reprimanded for using his whip six times forehand prior to the 100m.

J Kissick rider of Schussing, sixth plcegetter, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out hands and heels to the winning post.

The track was upgraded from Dead 4 to Good 3 at 1.08pm after the running of this race.

Race 2RIVERSIDE HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Dark Sun jumped awkwardly and was then slow into stride.

Shortly after straightening Classic Elle was held up for clear running until shifting to the outside approaching the 200m.

T Sadler, rider of Dark Sun, which performed below market expectations, could offer no explanation f or the poor performance other than the mare failed to respond to his riding on straightening.

L Nolen, rider of Aeronwy (IRE) which performed below market expectations, explained that with the strong early pace Aeronwy (IRE) was flat footed in the early stages however he was of the opinion that the mare finished the race off satisfactorily given the distance was too short for it today.

Race 3FLEMINGTON 1840-2013 HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

Lone Star hung out and approaching the 200m was steadied off the heels of Paaratte Pat which shifted in.

Over the concluding stages Snapparazi, when laying in, had to be eased away from the heels of Lone Star which was continuing to hang out.

Approaching the finishing line B Rawiller (Paaratte Pat) accidentally dropped his whip.

A Stead, rider of Jackpot Queen which weakened over the concluding stages, advised that in his view the mare, which was first up today, was not suited by today’s firm track conditions as her best form has been on tracks with some give.

Race 4BYRON MOORE HANDICAP - 2000 metres:

Alcohol jumped awkwardly and out onto Kutchinsky.

S Arnold, rider of Alcohol which performed poorly, advised the gelding travelled well throughout but failed to respond to his riding when put under pressure.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Alcohol revealed the gelding to have Atrial Fibrillation and trainer Mr R Jolly was advised that a veterinary clearance together with the satisfactory results of an ecg performed after exercise is required prior to Alcohol racing again.

Race 5BAGOT HANDICAP (Listed) - 2800 metres:

Star Of Jeune was slow to begin.

Waratone raced three wide.

J Beriman, rider of Star Of Jeune which ran last, advised that she was given no specific instructions today other than to ride the gelding where it comfortably settled.  She added that after being slow to begin she settled at the rear but the gelding then failed to respond to her riding from the home turn and felt jaded.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Star Of Jeune revealed no abnormalities.

B Rawiller, rider of Unusual Suspect (USA) which was disappointing, advised that the horse had jarred up.  A subseuqent veterinary examination of Unususal Suspect (USA) revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg and trainer Mr M Kent will submit a veterinary clearance prior to Unusual Suspect (USA) racing again.

C Schofield, rider of Rock Robster which weakened in the straight, advised the mare failed to run out the distance. A post race veterinary examination of Rock Robster revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6STANDISH HANDICAP (Group 3) - 1200 metres:

After arriving on course Good Ba Ba (USA), which had not raced since April 25 2011 at Sha Tin, was examined by the RV veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

At the start Elusive Touch was tightened for room by Top Drop which shifted out.

L Currie, rider of Big Bear Rock which performed poorly, explained that the gelding felt short in its action on pulling up.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Big Bear Rock revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and trainer Mr S Brown was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to the gelding racing again.

G Boss, rider of Outlandish Lad which was eased down passing the 200m, advised that the gelding shortened stride quickly and something felt amiss.  A subseuqent veterinary examination of Outlandish Lad revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7GEORGE WATSON HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Passing the 1200m Infinite Energy was checked when tightned for room between Dash For Viz, which had shifted to the inside of Infinite Energy after having raced outside that gelding, and Giresun (N Hall) which had shifted in slightly when racing behind Le Remas which had taken up a two wide position.  After considering all circumstances, Stewards issued a severe reprimand to N Hall and notified him that when racing in similar circumstances he would be expected to leave sufficient room for horses racing to his inside.

Rounding the home turn and in the straight Galileo Gold (NZ) hung out.

From approaching the 300m until near the 200m Dash For Viz was held up for clear running.

Le Remas hung in under pressure in the straight.

Race 8WILLIAMSTOWN HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Trainer Mr M Hibbs was fined $100 for his late declaration of C Schofield as rider of Another Blue Boy in this event.

After the running of Race 4 trainer Mr M Hibbs advised that Another Blue Boy would be ridden further back today from the wide barrier.  Another Blue Boy was ridden accordingly.

Praesentia jumped away awkwardly and was then checked when tightened for room between Haussmann and Chile Express (NZ) which both shifted ground.

Adjuster also jumped away awkwardly hitting the right hand side of the gate.

Diamond Diggler over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Chile Express (NZ) raced three wide without cover.
