Over the concluding stages Fosseding Barnes was disappointed for a run between Gorilla’s Mist and Luke’s Courage.

When asked to explain if he could offer any explanation for the improved performance of Niarchos (winner) today, trainer Mr J Griffiths was of the opinion that Niarchos was suited to the synthetic surface and at its most recent start did not handle the heavy track conditions at Bairnsdale.  Mr Griffiths further explained that with the wide barrier draw today and the lack of pace in the race suited Niarcho who raced in a forward position rather than being boxed in the field.

C Symons, rider of Aegean which performed poorly, believes that the gelding is not suited and does not appreciate the synthetic track.  A post race veterinary examination of Aegean revealed no abnormalities.
