Race 1 – THIRSTY CAMEL HUMP CLUB BOTTLESHOP SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:
For the majority of the race Pop My Cork raced three wide without cover.
Passing the 400m Luna Lang commenced to race ungenerously when placed in restricted room to the inside of Amber Cavalier. Luna Lang further appeared to shy at the whip of C Newitt (Amber Cavalier) and became unbalanced.
Approaching and rounding the home turn South Bay Girl hung out.
C Newitt rider of Amber Cavalier stated that the colt had a tendency to over-race in the early stages.
When questioned, M Allen (Luna Lang) stated he was disappointed in the performance of the gelding that resented racing tight to the inside of Amber Cavalier. M Allen added that Luna Lang was then inclined to lay in over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of Luna Lang revealed no abnormalities.
Race 2 – WAURN PONDS THIRSTY CAMEL BOTTLESHOP MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:
Magic Dollar, which last raced in October 2011, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race.
Miromiro jumped away awkwardly.
On jumping away Floatmyboat (NZ) shifted in and brushed Play In The Arc.
Shortly after the start Miromiro had to be eased to avoid the heels of Platinum Panther which was taken in by Runs For Fun. B Evans (Runs For Fun) was reminded of his obligations to ensure his mounts are sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
In the middle stages Platinum Panther, which was over-racing, hung out.
After the running of the race J Mott (Platinum Panther) was examined by the Club’s doctor and stood down from fulfilling his remaining engagement in Race 8.
Race 3 – INVICIUM PRINT SOLUTIONS COUNTRY SHOWCASE BM72 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
Dimi The Dancer, which was placed last in a field of seven at Seymour 15 November 2012, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was deemed fit to start. When questioned regarding the performance of Dimi The Dancer at Seymour, trainer Mr B Woodman explained the gelding had pulled up well and in his opinion was not suited by the track conditions. Mr Woodman explained Dimi The Dancer is best placed on firm track surfaces.
Viscera raced three wide without cover throughout.
Stratumsphere was held up rounding the home turn and until the 300m.
Passing the 100m Stratumsphere shifted in and bumped with Dimi The Dancer before being corrected by its rider (C Newitt).
When questioned regarding the performance of Henwood (NZ) today, T Sadler stated the gelding did not stretch out and in his opinion was not suited to the synthetic racing surface. A post race veterinary examination of Henwood (NZ) revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4 – ANGLESEA HOTEL THIRSTY CAMEL BOTTLESHOP F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:
B Rawiller was fined $200 for failing to fulfil his engagement on Jumpin’ Joh in this event due to being overweight.
On jumping away She’s Delightful shifted out and tightened Set Again out onto Chacella and Freshwater Rose resulting in those three horses being inconvenienced.
Chacella raced three wide in the early stages before crossing to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 800m.
Freshwater Rose over-raced through the middle stages.
On the home turn Moira’s Charm, which was held up for clear running, had to be checked off the heels of Bellarine Rose which shifted out.
D Holland (Chacella) was reprimanded for the manner in which he permitted his mount to shift in passing the 200m, inconveniencing Dance Delago that in turn was taken in hampering Freshwater Rose that was steadied by its rider.
R Wheeler (No Imperfections) was questioned regarding his tactics near the 900m, and in particular the reasons why he relinquished his position one out and one back before Set Again was able to obtain a position in advance of his mount. R Wheeler stated his mount was racing ungenerously and he was endeavouring to settle his mount while maintaining a straight course. R Wheeler explained for these reasons he was unable to maintain his position and highlighted his mount did settle when trailing Set Again. Stewards were of the opinion R Wheeler could have and should have, made a greater effort to hold his position, obliging Set Again to race three wide to his outside.
M Neve, rider of Dance Delago, stated that the mare hung out throughout the race.
A post race veterinary examination of Freshwater Rose, which was placed last and performed below expectations, revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5 – BOAGS PREMIUM LAGER 0-62 HANDICAP - 2200 metres:
The Wild Thing was slow to begin (two lengths).
Try Pickle threw its head up on jumping away and lost ground.
Mako over-raced in the early stages.
Turning out of the straight Try Pickle got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Our Tiger Lil.
J Childs (The Wild Thing) accidentally dropped his whip near the 100m.
D Thornton was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on Our Tiger Lil from the 800m. D Thornton acknowledged leaving the back straight he should have commence to improve his mount three wide around Biancrazy before being briefly pocketed for a run to the inside of Try Pickle. D Thornton added when able to improve his mount three wide trailing Try Pickle from approximately the 500m, he was able to race with cover before straightening. D Thornton highlighted that Our Tiger Lil had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages. His comments were noted.
C Robertson, rider of Biancrazy, stated that in his opinion the mare has come to the end of its preparation and trainer Ms R Macleod confirmed that the mare would now be spelled.
Race 6 – SPHINX THIRSTY CAMEL BOTTLESHOP 0-68 HANDICAP - 1900 metres:
Baby Boy raced ungenerously and had a tendency to lay out passing the crossing near the 1600m before being eased to avoid the heels of Geeceegazza.
Puff hung out rounding the home turn and in the straight.
For a short distance approaching the 200m Geeceegazza was held up when unable to obtain clear running. Geeceegazza then shifted to the outside near the 150m to obtain a clear run.
Race 7 – THIRSTY CAMEL BOTTLESHOPS 0-62 HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
Approaching the 800m Coodawoodashooda shifted in and bumped Heralds unbalancing that gelding.
In the early and middle stages Salafaith over-raced.
Race 8 – NORLANE THIRSTY CAMEL BOTTLESHOP COUNTRY SHOWCASE 0-62 HANDICAP - 1300 metres:
Sahara Night was a late withdrawal at 5.05pm on veterinary advice after it injured itself in the stabling area. All monies invested on Sahara Night to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 5.05pm: 16 cents in the dollar for the Win (Romanair), 12 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 14 cents in the dollar for second place (Another Blue Boy) and 12 cents in the dollar for third place (Danish Rock).
Dhammasara jumped away awkwardly and was then bumped by Danish Rock which shifted in resulting in Dhammasara losing ground.
Pure Courage over-raced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 900m Jeune De Coeur had to be eased off the heels of Danish Rock which was over-racing.
Triple Elite raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.
Passing the 200m Canadian Major was obliged to change course and shift to the inside of Con Thrust. Canadian Major then had some difficulty obtaining clear running inside the final 100m.
M Neve (Con Thrust) was reprimanded for her excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner.
