TWO days have been set aside for the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board hearing into charges against Con and Tony Karakatsanis.
The son and father face a combined five charges stemming from a report by Racing Victoria’s Compliance Assurance Team, which visited the Flemington stables where Con Karakatsanis had his sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme on the day of the Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington on November 3.
The CAT team of Kane Ashby and Dion Villella told stewards when they paid a random visit to the Flemington stables they found a bag containing equipment capable of stomach tubing a horse inside the box of Howmuchdoyouloveme.
Stewards were told by Tony Karakatsanis that he took the wrong bag into the horse’s box. He added he thought the bag contained feed.
The RAD Board hearing begins tomorrow at RV headquarters at 10am.
Sydney solicitor Tony Carmody will appear for the Karakatsanis.
Con Karakatsanis, who trains Howmuchdoyouloveme, faces two charges.
Stewards charged him under rule 175 k, which deals with any person who has committed a breach of the rules or whose conduct or negligence has led or could have led to a breach of the rules.
It’s alleged that Con Karakatsanis arranged for Tony Karakatsanis to stomach tube Howmuchdoyouloveme, conduct which could have led to a breach of the rules.
Con Karakatsanis is also charged under Rule 175 (l), which deals with any person who attempts to commit or conspires with any person to commit or any person who connives at or is a party to another committing any breach of the rules.
Stewards allege that Con Karakatsanis arranged with and or authorised Tony Karakatsanis for Tony Karakatsanis to stomach tube Howmuchdoyoulove before he raced that afternoon.
It’s alleged that Con Karakatsanis in arranging with and or authorising Tony Karakatsanis to stomach tube Howmuchdoyouloveme he conspired with him to commit a breach of the rules.
Tony Karakatsanis, a registered stable hand, faces three charges.
He is charged under Rule 175 (k) in that he arranged with Con Karakatsanis and or agreed to stomach tube Howmuchdoyouloveme on the day that he was to race.
Stewards allege that Tony Karakatsanis placed a bag containing two nasogastric tubes, a funnel, a bucket and powder in Howmuchdoyoulove’s box for the purpose of stomach tubing the horse.
Stewards allege that Tony Karakatsanis’ conduct could have led to a breach of the rules.
It is also alleged that Tony Karakatsanis conspired with Con to commit a breach of the rules as well as placing the bag in the box of Howmuchdoyouloveme he performed such an act that he attempted to commit a breach of the rules.
