Race 1 – LINCOLN FAMILY FUNERALS SV MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres:

Shortly after the start Inala Champ, which was marginally slow to begin was then tightened for room between Alpine Valley, which shifted out, and Excessive Speed which shifted in and away from By His Design.   Due to this tightening Inala Champ clipped the heels of Excessive Speed and almost fell almost dislodging its rider B Rawiller and was severely checked.

Near the 600 metres By His Design shifted out in an attempt to improve its position and in doing so made contact with Miss Funny Money.

From approaching the 600 metres until the end of the race Ariadne hung out.

 M. Rodd rider of Saint Pulse which performed well below market expectations could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance today, other than it was extremely disappointing.   A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.   A swab sample was ordered to be taken from the gelding.

Race 2 – GALLAY MEDICAL & SCIENTIFIC P/L SV MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:

At the start Estamagic jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with the outside starting stall gate.

Paddy The Stallion was marginally slow to begin.

Shortly after the start Estamagic had to be checked off the heels of Fra Diablo, which was taken out by Reward The Faith.

In the early stages of the race Estamagic and Fra Diablo both raced keenly.

After passing the 800 metres Panarea commenced to over-race quite badly and got its head up on several occasions when being steadied.

Approaching the 600 metres Panarea which had continued to over-race, then had to be checked to avoid the heels of Reward The Faith

Near the 400 metres Fra Diablo which had continued to race keenly, hung out.

Rounding the home turn Ne Power was held up for a run for a short distance.

Rounding the home turn Deus Invictus hung out.

In the straight Fra Diablo when improving, continued to race keenly

Race 3 – BLUECROS COMMUNITY AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES SV MAIDEN PLATE - 1450 metres:

M. Rodd was fined the sum of $100 for being unable to fulfil his engagement on Likeadylan due to being over-weight.   In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M. Rodd’s previously good record in regards to this matter.

B. Rawiller rider of Zarbitrage which was having its first start, however performed well below market expectations, explained that in his opinion the gelding did hold its breath at times during the running of the race and on pulling up made an unusual respiratory noise.  B. Rawiller added it would be his recommendation to M.W & J. Hawkes trainers of the gelding to place a tongue tie on it.   A subsequent veterinary examinant revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was ordered to be taken from Zarbitrage.

Cousin Andy, Zarbitrage, Shinzigzag and Currayoung were all marginally slow to jump away.

Musician over-raced in the middle stages.

From near the 1200 metres onwards Cousin Andy was obliged to race wide without cover.

Near the 800 metres Musician which had continued to over-race then had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Greylami.   Delrazzi which was following Musician also had to be steadied at this point.

Race 4 – W & P TRUCK SALES SV 0-58 HANDICAP - 1450 metres:

Acting on a report from the Starter that Bernadini Bullet was difficult to load into its barrier stall, Stewards notified Mr. Feroz Ismail representing trainer D. Hayes, that Bernadini Bullet was now suspended from racing until such time it performs to the satisfaction of Stewards and gains an approval to race.

Prior to correct weight B. Rawiller rider of Our Rhomeo second placegetter viewed the official video in the straight before lodging an objection against Menchov being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the straight.   It was established that after passing the 100 metres Menchov shifted out taking Our Rhomeo slightly out off its course and that prior to the winning post D. Lane rider of Menchov accidentally struck Our Rhomeo in the vicinity of the head with his whip.   As Stewards could not be fully satisfied these incidents equated to the margin between first and second, the protest was dismissed and correct weight declared.

At the start Laurie’s Legacy knuckled and Kadena Lane and Menchov were both slow to jump away.

Red Five was obliged to race wide without cover throughout.

Rounding the home turn Our Rhomeo and Kadena Lane were both held up for clear running.

Race 5 – CAPITAL RADIOLOGY SV CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Forbidden Rule was slow to jump away.

In the straight Rive Gauche laid out.

After passing the 100 metres Northcliffe was taken out slightly by Maldives, which resulted in Northcliffe then having to be steadied to avoid the heels of Aurum Spirit.

Race 6 – BROWNS SAWDUST & SHAVINGS SUPPLIES SV BM72 HANDICAP - 1900 metres:  As Mr. R. Laing trainer of Rock Musician had failed to scratch the horse by the prescribed time Stewards authorised the late withdrawal of Rock Musician at 8.46 a.m.  Mr. Laing was severely reprimanded for this offence.   In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr. Laing’s good record in this area.

D. Lane was fined the sum of $100 for being unable to fulfil his engagement on Hot Power due to being over-weight.    In assessing penalty Stewards took into account D. Lane’s previously good record in regards to this matter.

Prior to rounding the home turn Darwin was held up for a clear run.

Approaching the winning post Point Made had to be steadied when tightened for room between Grand Sai Wan (S. Hunter) which shifted in under pressure and First Course (A. McCabe) which shifted out under pressure.  Both S. Hunter and A. McCabe were notified to exercise greater care when in similar circumstances.

Race 7 – KILMORE DENTAL AND SPECIALIST CENTRE SV 0-68 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

After being placed in its starting stall Empress Zakynthos became restless.   Empress Zakynthos was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who deemed the mare unfit to start.   Acting on this Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Empress Zakynthos at 5.14 p.m.   Subsequently Stewards ordered the following deductions to betting:    All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Empress Zakynthos to be refunded. All bets after the withdrawal of Empress Zakynthos to be paid as follows:

Deductions for a win – 9 cents #7

Deductions for a place (Winner)– 10 cents #7

Deductions for second placegetter – 12 cents #4

Deductions for third placegetter – 15 cents #8

All monies bet after the withdrawal of Empress Zakynthos to be refunded.

Acting on a report from the Starter that Empress Zakynthos was unruly in its barrier stall the mare’s trainer M. Shillito was notified the mare was now suspended from racing until such time it performs to the satisfaction of Stewards

Prior to correct weight J. Winks rider of Tycoon Express second placegetter viewed the official video in the straight before deciding not to proceed with an objection.

Shortly after the start Tycoon Express was tightened for room between Most Husbands which shifted out slightly, and Smooth Liqueur which shifted in before being straightened by its rider.

Near the 200 metres Consecrate had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Timely Truce and Most Husbands where there was insufficient room.

After passing the 200 metres Consecrate then shifted in and hampered Smooth Liqueur.

After passing the 100 metres Timely Truce shifted in and brushed Blonde Brigade before being straightened by its rider which resulted in Blonde Brigade being taken in off its course. Blonde Brigade (C. Parish) then shifted in slightly tightening Consecrate which had obtained a neat run to the inside of that mare in on to Littlebitaluck. As a result of this tightening Consecrate had to be steadied when racing in restricted room.   After taking into account all the circumstances involved Stewards severely reprimanded C. Parish and notified him in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a far greater effort to maintain a straight course on his mounts.

In the straight Smooth Liqueur had a tendency to lay in.

B. Rawiller rider o Most Husbands explained in his opinion the gelding was disappointing.  B. Rawiller further explained that Most Husbands pulled up in a normal manner.
