Hot trainer Darren Weir continues to be pleasantly surprised with the on-going success of his progressive mare Lake Sententia.
Tomorrow the four-year-old mare tackles high quality mares in the Group 2 $300,000 Matriarch Stakes, yet Weir will go to Flemington thinking Lake Sententia deserves her place in the field.
“We thought she could win at Moonee Valley but we didn’t think she’d go there and win by five lengths,” Weir told TVN today.
Lake Sententia has only raced six times for four wins, but Weir is sure her winning ways are not yet over.
“She has always given us the impression the better the race you put her in the better she will go.
"She likes to run on off a hot pace so we’ll find out a lot more about her tomorrow,” he said.
“There are some really top mares here, particularly Silent Achiever. Running a place would be very good for her value,” he said.
Last season’s New Zealand Derby winner Silent Achiever is marked a hot $1.75 favourite with Bet365, with Weir’s Lake Sententia the second elect at $7.50.
