By Adrian Dunn TVN Monday, December 24, 2012 - 3:56 PM

WEST Australian handicapper David Hunter has asked Mr Moet to shoulder a Perth Cup impost not carried in 40 years.

Hunter today handicapped Mr Moet, the Railway and Cox Stakes winner, as top weight with 59 kg in the $524,000 Group 2 race on New Year’s Day.

History tells us that no Perth Cup winner since 1973 has carried more than 55.5kg, the impost that Lord Ransom carried in 2010.

Lord Ransom, now a nine-year-old, will carry 55kg this year.

Bjorn Baker’s last start Xmas Cup winner Cantonese has 54kg, the same weight as Mr Moet’s stablemate Chester Road.

Sportsbet.com.au has Chester Road as the $3.70 favourite with Cantonese at $6 and Mr Moet at $7.
