Supplementary Report
Mildura, Monday July 2 2012
Race 4 – Euston Club Resort Maiden Plate – 1808 metres:
Stewards today concluded an inquiry adjourned from the Mildura meeting conducted July 2 2012. On this day Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons why Shadow Dance was checked at approximately the 1600m and rider B Hussey dislodged.
On the evidence it was established Cronk (NZ) that was leading the field, commenced to hang out passing the crossing and approaching the first turn resulting in Cercanova that had established a position to the outside of the heels of Cronk (NZ), having to be steadied and eased marginally wide.
Shadow Dance (B Hussey) that was trailing was checked off the heels of Cercanova as a consequence and shifted out clipping the heel of Riverlea Allegro resulting in Brittany Hussey becoming unbalanced and dislodged from her mount.
Leading up to this incident Frantasmic racing to the outside of Riverlea Allegro, had bumped on two occasions with Ski Lago. This resulted in Frantasmic racing tight to the outside of Riverlea Allegro and these horses shifting in marginally, ultimately contributing to the incident. At the time Shadow Dance met with interference, Ski Lago was also checked when tightened for room between Frantasmic and Ourgirlmootiff.
The Panel did not deem the actions of any particular rider careless and no further action will be taken. A significant contributing factor in the incident was the racing manners of Cronk (NZ) that shifted out when hanging out approaching the turn. A warning was issued against the racing manners of Cronk (NZ) and the performance of that gelding will be monitored.
B Hussey advised Stewards despite some general soreness, she had recovered well from the fall. B Hussey will be required to consult with Racing Victoria Medical Officer Dr Gary Zimmerman prior to resuming race riding.
Stewards will monitor and consult with the Victorian Jockeys Association regarding concerns raised about the suitability of the Mildura Racing Club’s 1800m race start.
