Race 1 – MLP-STRATA MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres:
Approaching the first turn near the 600m Waldorf, which was racing ungenerously, got its head up then lost its position when racing tight between Ethicist and Between The Lines.
After passing the 500m Zaydah commenced to hang out and hung out for the remainder of the race.
Belwina and Suum Cuique raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
Approaching the 200m Ethicist was held up for a clear run before shifting to the inside of Zaydah to gain a clear passage.
I Gundogdu, rider of Between The Lines which was having its first race start, reported that the gelding will be better suited to a bigger racing circuit as it failed to handle the tight turning track today. A post race veterinary examination of Between The Lines revealed no abnormalities.
A Mallyon, rider of Suum Cuique which was also having its first race start, reported that his mount hung out for the majority of the event and for this reason did not finish its race off. A post race veterinary examination of Suum Cuique revealed the filly to mildly lame in the near hind leg and trainer Mr J Warren was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Suum Cuique racing again.
Race 2 – PHARMORE PHARMACIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:
Trainer Mr B Craven was fined $50 for presenting Floating Bullet in the mounting yard without winkers which are part of the mare’s declared gear.
Shotover River (NZ) jumped away awkwardly.
Passing the 700m Enhancements began to over-race and had to be steadied off the heels of Just Cause and as a result shifted in and hampered Shotover River (NZ).
From the 800m Ripping Yarn raced wide without cover.
Rounding the home turn and until straightening Shotover River (NZ) was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
Also rounding the home turn and until near the 150m Floating Bullet was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
In the straight Red John layed in under pressure.
A Austin (She’s Delightful) was severely reprimanded for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.
L Beer (Bugsy) was severely reprimanded for using his whip seven times forehand, prior to the 100m.
L Beer, rider of Bugsy which performed below expectations, reported that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure in the straight failed to run on as expected.
Race 3 – M MUAREMOV & ASSOCIATES MAIDEN PLATE - 1750 metres:
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer Mr R Meunier for his late declaration of A Austin as rider of Delago Pearl in this event.
On jumping away Lifetime shifted out and inconvenienced Steiglitz.
War Is Over jumped away awkwardly.
In the early stages Steiglitz was caught wide without cover before being allowed to stride and take up a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
After passing the 1000m War Is Over raced wide without cover
Rounding the home turn Amalie was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
For a short distance rounding the home turn Dramatique was held up for a clear run.
A Austin rider of Delago Pearl reported on the scales that his mount did not feel right in its action when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Delago Pearl revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4 – SILVERWATER RESORT 0-58 HANDICAP - 1750 metres:
The recent form for Zoccari (NZ), which ran eight of nine at Hamilton on November 5 2012, may not be in all publications.
Near the 300m Tommygun Dane became unbalanced when that gelding was bumped heavily by Roman Pleasure.
J Benbow, rider of Tommygun Dane reported that his mount hung out after passing the 400m and after receiving some interference near the 300m his mount gave ground quickly in the straight and was eased down over the concluding stages. A subsequent veterinary examination of Tommygun Dane revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg and trainer Ms C Sexton was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness is required prior to Tommygun Dane racing again.
Race 5 – PAKENHAM GAZETTE 0-58 HANDICAP - 2400 metres:
Delago Lou was slow into stride.
In the early stages East Verses West raced wide before being allowed to take up a pos outside the leader on straightening on the first occasion.
Race 6 – AUSPT HANDICAP - 1300 metres:
Prior to correct weight D Holland rider of Skalatoson, fifth placegetter, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Stewards were also satisfied there were insufficient grounds for an objection.
I’m Leaving was slow into stride.
When the pace slackened near the 900m British India had to be eased off the heels of Cleaver and as a result British India then raced wide without cover.
Passing the 200m Lovernotafighter shifted in and bumped Stormaway.
Near the 100m Nikolaevena, which was giving ground, had to be steadied when tightened for room by Skalatoson which was taken in off its course and inconvenienced by Stormaway which was also taken in off its course by Lovernotafighter (D Smith) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. D Smith was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
Over the concluding stages Stormaway was held up for a clear run.
A Mallyon, rider of Nate which settled further forward when compared to its most previous starts, stated that it had been their intention to ride the gelding in this manner in previous starts but over a shorter distance it was unable to obtain a forward position. Therefore over the increased distance of today’s event he was able to obtain a position outside the leader.
Race 7 – CENTREBET SUPER BEST PLUS - 1000 metres:
The start of the race was delayed to avoid a clash with the thoroughbred meeting at Gawler.
The start of the race was further delayed when Our Nkwazi, which was fractious in its barrier stall, got its leg cast. Our Nkwazi underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race.
Our Nkwazi began awkwardly.
El Blazing Time and Belahi were both slow to begin.
Shortly after the start Our Nkwazi shifted in slightly and bumped El Blazing Time.
Passing the 900m Belahi had to be steadied when avoiding the heels of Bleaching.
Our Nkwazi raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
Rounding the home turn and in the straight Out Of The Fire layed in placing its rider, J Todd, at a disadvantage in riding the gelding out.
C Bruce, rider of Danzareel which performed poorly, explained that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure in the straight did not respond to her riding and she felt there may be something amiss with the gelding. A subsequent veterinary examination of Danzareel revealed no abnormalities.
