Rodd can start New Year just like he started the old one

MICHAEL Rodd, refreshed from a Christmas break, can start the New Year – just as he did this year with a Standish Handicap win on Catapulted.

Rodd has spent the best part of the past three weeks in northern Queensland as well as in New Zealand, but he’s keen to get straight back to business.

With the presence of former Hong Kong champion Good Ba Ba in the field, Catapulted will carry the same weight he won last year’s Standish.

“He has a great straight record and he has a nice weight on his back given what he’s done,” Rodd said.

“It is a race with a number of chances, but obviously his straight record speaks for itself. He’s the winner of the race and he’s going really well.

“Undeniably coming out and winning the Christmas Stakes on Boxing Day franked the form. I’m very happy with the way he’s going.

“He’s a class act, he won well first-up and there is no reason why he can’t go on with it.”

Rodd will head to the Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast where he will ride Change Of Honour in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

“He’s an exciting young horse. Hopefully we can draw a good barrier and get a nice run,” Rodd said.

He will also ride one of Brian Guy’s in the 3YO Magic Millions.
