Sandown Guineas: What the jockeys said

By Carl Di Iorio TVN Saturday, November 17, 2012 - 5:43 PM

Below are comments from jockeys who rode in the $350,000 Group 2 Sportingbet Sandown Guineas (1600m) at Sandown Hillside.

Tatra (FIRST): “He’s no world beater, but he’s a grinder and he gives his best.” - Kerrin McEvoy

Lunar Rise (SECOND): “He had the softer run today. I mean I had a soft run today as well but last time he did more work in the run. I must admit he stargazed when I let him down in the straight and then at the 100 metre mark I thought I had him but Tatra was too good.” - Hugh Bowman

Proverb (THIRD): “He ran super. Around the corner he just wobbled off the fence a bit and I got slung off a little bit but then he ran home really strongly.” - Steven Arnold

Eximius (FOURTH): “I just got into trouble down the back straight and it probably cost him finishing a couple of lengths closer which is all that he has been beaten by.” - Craig Newitt

Al Aneed (FIFTH): “He is a very difficult colt.” - Glen Boss

Dances on Stars (SIXTH): “Really good run and probably nobody expected him to run that good. Blinkers on would have been a different story.” - Michael Walker

Edgewood (SEVENTH): “He was just a little bit slow away and I think its something to do with still being a colt.”- Nick Hall

Just Forget It (NINTH): “He’s a nice horse. He’ll be a nice horse for the future. He is still green and learning. He’ll get over more ground.” - Daniel Stackhouse

Host of the Party (TENTH): “He’s done a big job this campaign and it was asking too much to drop him back from 1800 metres to 1600 metres in ten days time. Ideally he would have been stepping up to 2000 metres. We tried to apply blinkers on him to spark him but it didn’t work. I think he’ll be a nice horse next campaign, it’ll be interesting to see what level he gets to.”  - Dwayne Dunn

Moreau (11th): “Wants the paddock.” - Vlad Duric

Gold Medals (12th): “Great run. A really nice horse for the future.” - Michael Rodd

Timely Truce (13th): “He went back from a wide barrier and he didn’t make any impression…he made no ground.” - Dean Yendall

Flying Skipper (14th): “Going to be more of a staying type next preparation.” - Steven King

Cracked (15th): “He was a little bit outclassed, but he’ll be a nice little horse going through the grades in the future.” - Daniel Moor

Right to Roam (Last): “Disappointing. I felt the horse came to the end of his preparation.”  - Craig Williams
