Horses to follow from Melbourne and Sydney racing last weekend..
THERMAL CURRENT 21.86
He steadied back from the outside gate to settle at the tail of the field over only 1000m when he was on debut at Flemington 12/1. Only immaturity cost him a win, he can only improve shortly.
MS FUNOVITS 21.95
She was on debut when there was no money for her on track at Flemington 12/1 when she dwelt at the start before mustering paced to lead over 1000m. She showed determination when challenged. Game.
This filly did what many wouldn’t attempt. She took on raced opposition in town when she made her debut at Flemington 12/1. After jumping from an outside gate over 1000m she finished off strongly late. Smart.
He had been an acceptor at Rosehill as well on 12/1 but a clash with stable-mate War Charm was avoided when he tacked the “Straight Six” at Flemington. He atoned for previous luckless Sydney defeats in style.
Her jockey stated after she failed at Gosford at her previous start that she may have held her breath and not run out a strong 1200m. A switch to 1000m and a move to Flemington 12/1 saw her regain her form.
**H*BOOM ‘N’ ZOOM** 23.04
He doesn’t have the greatest winning strike rate in the business but all concerned must have been delighted with his first up effort at Flemington over 1600m when he was clearly doing his best work late.
He was having his seventh start over 1600m when he was fourth up from a spell at Flemington 12/1. He notched his fourth win over the journey on the day but connections may be tempted to try him over further.
STREETS OF SEATTLE 23.56
I suggested in this column after she was beaten at Caulfield on Boxing Day that she be given another chance and she was well supported at Flemington 12/1. Though beaten again, she was unsuited.
TUSCAN FIRE 23.86
After he enjoyed a copybook ride from Glen Boss he was placed under pressure a shade earlier than may’ve been expected at Flemington 12/1. He was flat to the boards near the line but never in danger.
He was only having his second start back from a very long spell when he totally outclassed his opposition at Warwick Farm 9/1. On the day he atoned for a luckless first up outing and far better races now await.
COOL DAYS 23.13
It’s not often we see a Tulloch Lodge runner at the tail of the field to the home turn but after he wasn’t well away at Rosehill 12/1 he conceded too great a start. He made up ground in the straight in an ok debut.
CALMING INFLUENCE 23.29
Once Mamwaazel won at Warwick Farm, the spotlight fell on her at Rosehill as the pair had both pleased in a recent trial. She showed pace to lead and finished off like a filly destined for better races.
PLATINUM JACK 23.60
A step back from 2600m to 2200m and gear changes proved to be the right recipe for success when he stepped out at Warwick Farm with Bandages removed 9/1. He can make the step to Saturday class.
He needed to overcome an awkward start at Warwick Farm 9/1 before he did enough to score over 1300m. In doing so he made it win number 3 from only 5 starts. He can build even further on this top strike rate.
KRISTY LEE N/A
After she handed in a top effort on debut in February 2012, it is hard to believe that it took until 11/1 this year at Canterbury for her to break her maiden status but now that she has broken through, she can go on.
She’d only been to the trials once but the trial was impressive and Punters stepped in when she made her debut at Warwick Farm 9/1. She scored with authority on the day over 1200m, she can only improve.
A tongue tie was added to her gear before she won easily at Gosford over 1600m. Connections then stepped her up to 1900m at Canterbury 11/1 and the result was very similar. She again scored impressively.
WIND BENDER N/A
She was in her second preparation and it took a step up to 1900m at Canterbury 11/1 before she could open her account but when she did, it was with great authority and she can be expected to now progress.
