Snowden heads west

Following another successful Sandown Classic day for Darley in Melbourne on Saturday, head-trainer Peter Snowden’s thoughts now turn to the west.

He was flying to Perth this morning to supervise the preparation of Pinwheel and Academus in feature races at Ascot this Saturday.

“They have both arrived and done well,” Snowden told TVN this morning.

“I’m just heading there now to see them through the week but I’m told they are both in good order,” he added.

Pinwheel will run in the $500,000 Winterbottom Stakes over 1200 metres, while Academus will tackle the $350,000 WA Guineas over 1600 metres for three-year-olds.

On Saturday at Sandown, Snowden won the Sandown Guineas for the third time in four years when Tatra held off Lunar Rose and stable-mate Proverb.

Pinwheel has been freshened since running seventh of 15 behind Moment Of Change in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Group 1 level on September 30.

His previous form included wins in the Group3 Missile Stakes and Group 2 Warwick Stakes.

Academus is a lightly raced Lonhro gelding who ran a close fourth to Eximius in the Listed Hilton Stakes at Flemington during Cup week.
