Race 1 – MITAVITE HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
Trainer Mr B Cozamanis was fined the sum of $50 for presenting Talbina in the mounting yard without blinkers which is a part of the filly’s declared gear.
Feral Cowboy bounded at the start lost its footing and was slow to begin.
Ardimento raced greenly.
Upon straightening Lannister shifted out and brushed Ardimento.
S Baster (Talbina) was fined $200 for using his whip seven times forehand prior to the 100m. S Baster was also severely reprimanded for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m forehand.
C Schofield reported that Fine Diamond didn’t appreciate today’s heavy track.
Race 2 – PALCARE PLATE - 1200 metres:
In God’s Name was slow to begin (one length).
Upon straightening Master Luca became unbalanced when racing on the inside of Walk The Lion which was taken in slightly by Bishops Castle.
In the straight Walk The Lion hung in.
D Smith, rider of Hirad which performed below market expectations, stated that the gelding over-raced in the middle stages and made an unusual respiratory noise during the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of Hirad revealed no abnormalities other than a slower than normal recovery.
Race 3 – LAND ENGINEERING HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
Bon Vacance raced three wide without cover.
We Own An Angel was held up for clear running from straightening until near the 250m.
Sari was held up for clear running from shortly after straightening until the 250m.
In the straight Bon Vacance hung in.
D Thornton, rider of Sari which jumped well from the inside barrier, advised that he was instructed to take a sit if outside horses showed speed and went forward.
Race 4 – SCHWEPPES HANDICAP - 2100 metres:
Tigeriffic was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 8.10am and trainer Mr C McDonald will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of it.
L Nolen, rider of Urban Explorer (NZ), stated that his mount failed to handle running down the hill leaving the 800m and when placed under pressure failed to respond. A post race veterinary examination of Urban Explorer (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormal findings.
Race 5 – SPORTINGBET HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
In the straight Captivating Lady hung out.
A Mallyon (Captivating Lady) was fined $200 for using his whip nine times forehand prior to the 100m. A Mallyon was further fined $100 for using his whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m in a forehand manner. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account A Mallyon’s recent good record.
A Mallyon was also issued with a reprimand for leaving the racecourse without a clearance.
J Winks, rider of On Tour, could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.
D Holland advised that Gaelstorm failed to handle the heavy track conditions today.
Race 6 – SUPERIOR FOOD SERVICES HANDICAP - 1500 metres:
After being placed in its barrier stall Harveys True Heart got its near hind leg temporarily cast. Harveys True Heart was examined by the RV veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 4.40pm and trainer Mr M Price was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding.
All monies invested on Harveys True Heart to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.40pm: 54 cents in the dollar for the Win (Second King), 31 cents in the dollar for place of winner, 28 cents in the dollar for second place (Soaked), 30 cents in the dollar for third place (Whatanexcuse (NZ)) and 54 cents in the dollar for doubles bets.
Shortly after the start Yasey San was tightened for room by Pop’s Revival (NZ) which was taken out by Soaked.
Race 7 – LE PINE FUNERALS HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
At the start Aneto and Lightenuff were tightened for room between Racer’s Dream and Daybreak which both shifted ground.
Shortly after the start Tiryns became unbalanced when brushed by Eight Cards which shifted out.
In the middle stages Racer’s Dream over-raced.
Lightenuff raced wide without cover.
Rounding the home turn Daybreak was held up behind American Dream which was giving ground.
C Schofield, rider of Rifleman which performed poorly, stated that the gelding did not handle today’s heavy track conditions.
B Melham, rider of American Dream, reported that the gelding failed to handle the track conditions, pulled hard in the early stages and may have choked down. A post race veterinary examination of American Dream revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3 – THE SETTLEMENT AT CRANBOURNE HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
Trainer Mr R Griffiths explained Chile Express underwent an endoscopic examination subsequent to the race which revealed signs of a respiratory infection. He added that Chile Express is being treated accordingly and his preparation will continue as planned.
Race 5 – SPORTINGBET HANDICAP - 2100 metres
Mr P Donnelly, trainer of Fabriano, explained that the gelding appeared to have pulled up well following his disappointing performance and added that he will continue with his preparation as previously planned.

Race 2 – CITY OF BALLARAT F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:
Ms M Cunningham trainer of Gangster Girl explained that the mare appeared to have pulled up well following her disappointing performance and added that she will continue with the mare’s preparation as planned.
Race 3 – AUSTRALIAN HOTELS ASSOCIATION SV 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres:
Mr P Hyland, trainer of Family Suggestion, advised the filly had sustained a stress fracture to the near fore cannon bone and would now be treated and spelled accordingly.
Race 8 – HYGAIN SHOWCASE 0 – 62 HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
Mr D Hayes, trainer of High Moment, advised that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and that it was the stable’s intention to continue with his preparation as planned.
Mr R Smerdon, trainer of Tacs Return, explained nothing had come to light which may have affected the gelding’s performance and for this reason the stable will continue with his preparation as planned.
