Adelaide trainer Paul Beshara is planning a Sydney-only campaign for his dream horse, Happy Trails.
One of the Spring stars from Melbourne last year with wins in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (Beating Green Moon) and the Group 1 $1 million Emirates Stakes, Happy Trails will have only three, possibly four runs this campaign, all in Sydney.
“He’s been back in work since the end of December after having a really good six weeks in the paddock.
"He’s beautiful, looks great and he’s very happy with his life right now,” an upbeat Beshara told racingnetwork today.
Happy Trails will kick-off this campaign in the Canterbury Stakes on March 25, then progress to the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes before the Doncaster Mile.
“If his form is good and he’s holding up OK, he might go on to the Queen Elizabeth a week later, but we’ll just wait and see about that,” Beshara said.
Happy Trails is one of just seven horses under Beshara’s care, and he loves his stable life being adored as a member of the family.
“He watches the grand-kids on the trampoline and takes everything in.
"He just loves being part of the family, which of course he is,” Beshara added.
Already the winner of more than $1.2 million in stakes, Happy Trails has raced 29 times for five wins and 11 placings and now is firmly entrenched in the upper-echelon of Australian racing.
Yet, for his knockabout trainer the journey Happy Trails is taking him and connections on is a once in a lifetime experience.
“Yep, we’re just going to enjoy the ride he’s taking us on for as long as it lasts.”
