Tariana heads to Tasmania for Bow Mistress

By Adrian Dunn TVN Saturday, January 5, 2013 - 4:52 PM

TALENTED mare Tariana earned herself a trip to Tasmania for the Bow Mistress Stakes after her runaway win in the John Moule Handicap today at Caulfield.

Owner Phil Frost said Tariana, a winner of her past two starts at Caulfield, thoroughly deserved a chance at black type in the Group 3 race.

Frost, who will sell the first colt from his SA Derby and Oaks winner Zarita at the Magic Millions sale, said Craig Newitt would be back in the saddle in the Bow Mistress.

He said apprentice Damien Thornton rode a superb race on Tariana today, but Newitt was the stable rider and he would again have the ride in Tasmania.

Tariana reeled off a sub 45 seconds final 800 metre split to post a three and a quarter length win as she stopped the clock at 1:8.99 for the 1200 metres.

Sent out a $2.60 favourite, Tariana has won four of her eight starts at Caulfield.

“We will give her a little freshen and then head down to Tasmania and hopefully get her some black type,” Frost said.
