Other Comments / Explanations:

Race 1southern cross produce maiden plate - 1980 metres:

Throughout the race Dunenormous hung out.  Due to Dunenormous hanging out Open (NZ) obtained a run to that gelding’s inside near the 500m.

Near the 1200m Little Big Man layed out for a short distance.

Approaching the 400m Pedinbe (NZ) which commenced to improve was then disappointed for a run to the inside of Little Big Man where there was insufficient room. As a result of this Pedinbe (NZ) had to be steadied to avoid heels and then shift out to obtain clear running.

Prior to the home turn Pedinbe (NZ) was again held up for a clear run.

Race 2centrebet maiden plate - 1000 metres:

At the start Flo’s Happy and Pretty Possum both reared.

Trevmick was slow to jump away and then shifted in abruptly and then had to be checked to avoid the heels of Swazao.

Also at the start Rezonated jumped away awkwardly and made contact with Sleepy Jean.

Near the 600m What A Snitz commenced to lay out.  What A Snitz then made contact with Pretty Possum.  This resulted in the hindquarters of What A Snitz becoming unbalanced and shifting out wider on the track and hampering Pretty Possum.

Near the 400m Flo’s Happy shifted in and then had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Swazao.

Pretty Possum was obliged to race wide without cover throughout.

Rounding the home turn Rezonated layed out.

A Mallyon rider of Longing which performed below market expectations explained that the mare raced greenly throughout and was also heavily in season.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Longing failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3D&M Stockfeeds maiden plate - 1400 metres:

At the start Be Good Richie and Conda Clang had to be checked when tightened for room between Symbol Of Freedom and Smoke ‘N’ Whiskey which shifted out.

Shortly after the start Grand Voyageur had to be checked when tightened for room between So Kosher and Miss Dynamite which shifted in.

Symbol Of Freedom was obliged to race wide without cover throughout.

Rounding the home turn Symbol Of Freedom layed out under pressure.

J Benbow rider of Midnight Show which gave ground quickly in the straight explained that in his opinion there was something amiss with the horse’s action in front. A subsequent veterinary examination of Midnight Show revealed the horse to have a slower than normal recovery rate.  The entire’s trainer Mr L Hope, revealed he would recommend to the owners to retire Midnight Show.

Race 4kioti tractors at bee jay machinery for christmas handicap - 1400 metres:

At the start Macchiato Express knuckled badly and lost considerable ground.

First Defence was slow to jump away.

Moscow raced wide throughout.

Prior to and rounding the home turn First Defence was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.

Over the concluding stages First Defence raced in restricted room to the inside of Moscow which shifted in.

When questioned M Gatt rider of Last Outlaw explained that prior to and rounding the home turn his mount was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.  M Gatt further explained that at the entrance to the straight he shifted outwards in an attempt to gain a clear run and in doing so brushed Hunka Reigns.  M Gatt continued that shortly after this incident Last Outlaw then obtained clear running to the inside of Moscow and Last Outlaw then did  not respond to his riding as he would have anticipated.  Stewards noted M Gatt’s explanation.

Race 5vraca & carapodio italian plate - 1600 metres:

On arrival at the barriers Down Under Boy was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to run.

Mr O’Postrophe raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn Down Under Boy was held up for a clear run and as a result had to be checked to avoid the heels of Palmyra boy.

Race 6albert scrimizzi memorial 0-58 handicap - 1600 metres:

At the start Compelled (NZ) had to be checked when tightened for room between Royal Express which shifted out and Mon Coeur which shifted in slightly.

Shortly after the start Mon Coeur had to be steadied off the heels of Marmaduke Jinx and as a result lost ground.

Near the 1300m Insurpassable changed stride, bounded in the air and shifted out abruptly from the running rail and as a result lost considerable ground.  During this incident Insurpassable shifted out and made heavy contact with No Rhyme Or Reason.  As this incident was not attributable to any other horse or rider, no further action was taken.

Rounding the home turn Royal Express was held up for clear running

J Londregan rider of Marmaduke Jinx which performed below market expectations explained that the gelding felt a little flat today and did not respond to his riding as he anticipated.

Race 7zaidee’s rainbow foundation centrebet handicap - 1000 metres:

Prior to correct weight A Thompson rider of Littlebitaluck, 4 placegetter, viewed the Stewards patrol film from the 400m before deciding not to lodge an objection.

Correct weight was delayed to allow C Atkinson rider of  On Report, unplaced, to view the Stewards patrol film of the start to ascertain whether the gelding had been denied a fair start.  After viewing the film and taking evidence from the Starter  Mr R McAdam it was determined that the barrier attendant attending On Report had released the gelding prior to the start being effected.  Acting on this Stewards deemed that On Report had not been denied a fair start and was deemed to be a runner.

At the start Testawan bounded and No Prior Knowledge was slow to begin.

In the early stages Leg Room and Crystal Reef both overraced.

Rounding the home turn Littlebitaluck had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Leg Room  which shifted out when improving.

Near the 200m Come To Moi had to be steadied momentarily to avoid the heels of Queen Of Roses which shifted out.

Subsequent to the event Innocent Inmate which gave ground quickly in the straight was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no abnormalities.

F Alesci rider of Queen of Rose explained that his instructions were to ride the mare in a forward position.  However, F Alesci further explained that Queen Of Roses jumped away awkwardly and did not muster early speed despite his efforts and for this reason settled further back than he intended.  When questioned in regard to the mare’s performance for the remainder of the race F Alesci explained the mare did not respond to his riding as he would have expected especially in the straight and although it passed some tiring runners it was in his opinion disappointing.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Queen Of Roses revealed the mare to have a slower than normal recovery rate.
