Waikato Stud will stand Rock N Pop

Famous New Zealand breeding establishment, Waikato Stud, has today confirmed Fastnet Rock entire Rock N Pop will stand stud duties there following his retirement from racing this week.

A $1 million yearling purchase, Rock N Pop captured his Group 1 in the New Zealand 2000 Guineas before running a gallant second to Silent Achiever in the New Zealand Derby.

Rock N Pop was sent to Gai Waterhouse to race last autumn when he finished eighth in the Rosehill Guineas.

He was spelled before resuming and finishing last in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes.

He was again spelled and recently resumed in the $100,000 Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on January 10 when he again injured himself.

The decision was quickly taken to retire the now four-year-old to stud.

He is out of the Group 1-winning Sir Tristram mare Popsy and by the hottest sire in this part of the world, Fastnet Rock.
