Extreme forecast weather conditions next Monday have seen a change of times for all races at Wangaratta.
The first race has been brought forward to 12 midday instead of 1pm, with reduced times between all races.
The last race will now be run at 4pm in an effort to dodge the hottest part of the day.
This is the second time in the space of five days a race meeting has been brought forward due to predicted extreme weather.
Racing Victoria’s Racing Operations Manager, Paul Bloodworth, said it was important racing could be flexible and prioritise the safety and well-being of horses, jockeys and other participants.
“The meeting has been brought forward due to predicted weather conditions in Victoria’s North East which are forecast to approach 36 degrees,” Bloodworth said.
“The forecast temperature for Monday follows four days in a row where weather conditions are predicted to hit more than 30 degrees in the Wangaratta region.
“Our discussions with the Bureau of Meteorology indicate bringing the races forward will avoid the predicted warmest part of the day.
“The safety and well-being of horses, jockeys and other participants remains our priority in hot weather conditions.”
The amended race times on the Wangaratta card are: Race 1 – 12pm; race 2 – 12.30pm; race 3 – 1pm; race 4 – 1.36pm; race 5 - 2.12pm; race 6 - 2.48pm; race 7 - 3.25pm; race 8 – 4pm.
