Race 1 – GORDON GIBSON NOMINEES F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1170 metres:

As no other senior rider was available Stewards permitted L. Grace to replace R. Bradley as the rider of  Molka Mist.

Bent Chicago and Penny Precious were both slow to begin (1L).

Penny Precious had a tendency to over race in the early stages.

Approaching the 600m Penny Precious, when over racing, had to be steadied off the heels of Orgullecida and in so doing shifted out and hampered Super Cali.

Shortly after straightening Gold Links had to be steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of  Pirate Jenny.

Approaching the 300m Penny Precious, when racing greenly, shifted out and hampered Super Cali.

Approaching the winning post Gold Links had to be eased off the heels of Ceccanti, which shifted out under pressure.

Race 2 – WANGARATTA BEARINGS & INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIES C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE - 1170 metres:

Anthony’s Way and General’s Choice were both slow to begin (1L)

Shortly after the start Special Quality was hampered when tightened for room between Shadow Tales and Edenvale Dream, which was taken out by Bay Zena, which shifted out.

Special Quality raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.

After passing the 600m Trooper, when laying out, shifted out and hampered Shadow Tales, which in turn shifted out and inconvenienced Storm Tracker.

Rounding the home turn Trooper hung out.

After passing the 200m Anthony’s Way had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Storm Tracker, which shifted in.

M. Pegus, rider of Special Quality, was severely reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on six occasions, including two in consecutive strides, prior to the 100m.

Race 3 – MASTER KING SECURITY SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres:

J. Welsh trainer of La Saverne, was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR114(c) for failing to scratch that filly by the required time. When reaching this decision the Stewards took into account that this was J. Welsh’s first offence under this rule.

Race 4 – ARTHUR CLARKE & CO PLUMBING MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres:

Hillbetheone, Kumara Nuggets and Fields Of Snow were all slow to begin.

Wrong Number over raced badly in the middle stages when pressured for the lead by Frankie Le Sausage, and near the 1000m shifted out and made contact with that gelding.

Near the 500m Belmorri had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Hillbetheone and Air Attack, which shifted in marginally.

Wrong Number laid out rounding the home turn, taking Frankie Le Sausage out wider on the track.

Shortly after straightening Frankie Le Sausage shifted in and brushed Wrong Number.

L. Grace, rider of Frankie Le Sausage, was questioned in the presence of Mr R. Nettleton, representing D. Hayes employer of L. Grace, regarding the tactics he adopted in this event, in that he applied pressure to Wrong Number in the middle stages and again from the 500m. After reviewing the video L. Grace & Mr R. Nettleton conceded that L. Grace erred in is judgement when commencing to ride his mount along on the second occasion near the 500m. After taking into account all the circumstances, including L. Grace’s inexperience, Stewards referred L. Grace to the Apprentice Review Panel for further action.

Captain Ted lost its offside hind plate during the running of the race.

Race 5 – CENTREBET’S PICK YOUR OWN FIELD 0 – 68 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that Tully Ranee was making an unusual respiratory noise. Mr S. Hoskins, trainer of the mare, was notified that prior to being permitted to start again he must be in receipt of a satisfactory endoscopic examination of the mare.

On return to scale the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that Rocket Rod was lame in a near foreleg. Mr D. Archard, the gelding’s trainer, was notified that he must be in receipt of a veterinary clearance before being permitted to start the gelding again.

L. Currie rider of Royal Dalton, which performed below market expectations, could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance today. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6 – MASON PARK FUNERALS 0 – 72 HANDICAP - 1300 metres:

After being placed in its barrier stall Penguin Car became fractious. Penguin Car was removed from its stall, examined by the clubs veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.

Rounding the home turn Stella Command was held up when unable to obtain clear running.

M. Pegus rider of Penguin Car, which performed poorly, stated that after being marginally slow to begin the gelding travelled well however did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure. He added that Penguin Car also made an unusual respiratory noise and for this reason he eased Penguin Car down in the straight. A subsequent Veterinary Examination revealed no abnormalities

A post-race veterinary examination of Lady Of The Lamp, which performed below market expectations, revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7 – LEDGER RACING 0 – 62 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

Pimento was slow to begin (1L).

Jayanem raced wide without cover.

S. Miller rider Magic Shag, which performed below market expectations, explained that the gelding was in his opinion disappointing today and when put under pressure in the latter stages got its head up and had a tendency to lay out.

Race 8 – PETE MURRAY @ WANG TURF CLUB 10 MARCH 0 – 58 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

Eddy Diablo was slow to begin (2L).

First Defence was also slow to begin.

Shivoo raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.

Meteoric Miss raced wide without cover throughout.

L. Meech, rider of Shivoo, could offer no explanation for the mare’s poor performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of Shivoo revealed no abnormalities.
