Metropolitan winner Glencadam Gold finished third in a trial at Randwick this morning in his first public appearance since leading and running sixth in the Melbourne Cup last November.

The trial was won by another Gai Waterhouse-trained galloper, three-year-old Spurtonic, a Flying Spur horse who has won one race at Newcastle from five starts.

Tommy Berry rode Glencadam Gold who led in his trial and battled on well over an unsuitable 1200 metres.

Stable-mate Laser Hawk, winner of the Rosehill Guineas and third in the Australian Derby last year, easily won a 1200-metre trial at Randwick this morning, also with Tommy Berry on board.

This was Laser Hawk’s second trial this preparation and he looks to have come back in great order.
