Race 1 – WYNDHAM WEEKLY SV 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres:
Casa Spirit was slow to begin and was then hampered shortly after the start when taken out by Drive.
Endzone jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and brushed Red Peak.
Genghis jumped away awkwardly.
Bec Said No Credit was slow to begin.
Approaching the 200 metres Bec Said No Credit shifted out from behind the heels of Genghis, making contact with Drive and forcing that colt wider. Casa Spirit, which was following, had to steady away from the heels of Drive in this incident.
N Hall, rider of Cosmic Melody, which performed below market expectations, could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance today. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.
Race 2 – WERRIBEE FUNCTION CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres:
Venetian Rock was slow to begin.
Tycoon Magic shifted in on jumping taking Abelardo Brom in and making contact with Ella Supero.
King Taros jumped away awkwardly.
Denise’s Angel over raced in the early stages.
Near the 500 metres Glamour Planet (NZ) had to be checked when disappointed for a run between Irish Lute and All Riled Up which shifted out slightly.
At the entrance to the straight Abelardo Brom was held up and when attempting to improve to outside the heels of Tycoon Magic, shifted out and made contact with Venetian Rock. As a result of the contact Venetian Rock then shifted back in taking Abelardo Browm across the heels of Tycoon Magic and having to be checked.
Irish Lute layed in under pressure in the straight.
Near the 200 metres Abelardo Brom had difficulty in obtaining clear running.
Race 3 – WERRIBEE FUNCTION CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres:
Shirlaski jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
The Donch over raced in the early stages, shifted out making the first turn and made contact with Borneo Jo which raced wide throughout.
Tinderbel layed in under pressure in the straight.
R Maloney, rider of Statham, which performed poorly, stated that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions. Vet s no abs.
J Mott, rider of Borneo Jo (NZ), which performed below market expectations, stated that his mount hung out for the majority of the event and as a result raced wide.
D Nikolic (Vivacious Lady) was severely reprimanded for breaching the provisions of AR137(A)(5)(a)(i) in that he used his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.
Race 4 – WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:
Big Package jumped away awkwardly.
Big Package raced greenly and approaching the home turn shifted out abruptly and hampered Streiff which made contact with Miss Starbel.
When questioned as to the apparent improved performance of Tricky Boy trainer P White was of the opinion that, with the addition of blinkers and racing over a shorter distance today may have improved the gelding’s chances.
During the running of the race Miss Starbel bled. Trainer J Warren was notified that Miss Starbel is now suspended from racing and now incurs the mandatory three month suspension from racing.
C Newitt, rider of More Than Smooth, stated that his mount did not handle today’s track conditions. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality and a post race sample was taken for analysis.
Race 5 – KING COBRA SIGNS F & M MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:
Suetonius jumped awkwardly, shifted in making contact with Monaco Vale.
R Maloney (Kwayera) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR137(a) in that near the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Lady Hillingdon resulting in that filly being taken in and Suetonius having to be checked. R Maloney had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 8 meetings to commence midnight July 1, 2012 and to expire midnight July 9, 2012. (2 metro, 6 provincial). In assessing penalty the Stewards were of the view that the incident qualified for the low range category of carelessness and took into account his guilty plea and good record.
Approaching the 800 metres Suetonius again had to be checked when tightened for room between Chilli Delight and Lady Hillingdon which shifted in away from Kwayera which was taken in by Leica Duel (NZ) (C Robertson). C Robertson was severely reprimanded and notified to leave sufficient room for runners to his inside.
C Robertson (Leica Duel) was fined $200 for breaching the provisions of AR137(A)(5)(a)(ii)(i) in that he used his whip on six occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres, two of which were consecutive.
R Maloney (Kwayera) stated that in his opinion his mount may have choked down after weakening quickly over the concluding stages. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.
N Callow, rider of Hilton Miss, which performed poorly, stated that his mount did not handle today’s track conditions.
Race 6 – TOBIN BROTHERS WERRIBEE 0-62 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
Soaring Dragon jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
Near the 400 metres Hoaksdale shifted out to avoid the heels of Layne which was giving ground quickly and bumped with Dolly Dolly (NZ). Hoaksdale became unbalanced for a short distance.
B Evans, (Hoaksdale) explained that shortly after straightening he removed his left hand from the reins to adjust his riding breeches. B Evans could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance today.
D Schmitt (Dolly Dolly NZ) reported that he felt that his mount may have been galloped on rounding the home turn and from that point on failed to respond to his riding. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.
D Gauci, rider of Layne, which performed poorly, stated that his mount was severely uncomfortable on today’s track and as a result was a beaten horse 800 metres out. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.
N Callow (Comic Ruler) reported that his mount hung inwards considerably throughout the race. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Race 7 – QUEST APARTMENTS WERRIBEE BM72 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:
Barbie’s Bombshell shifted in at the start taking Ferocia in onto Court Ya which had to be checked off the heels of Produced (NZ).
She Swings jumped away awkwardly made contact with hindquarters of Invincible Jess and then shifted in and made contact with Resolvere.
Near the 300 metres Ortayga shifted out off the heels of Produced (NZ) and made contact with She Swings.
I Gundogdu (She Swings) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in after leaving the 600 metres when not fully clear of Ortayga, which in turn was taken in onto My Survivor resulting in Ferocia, which was racing to its inside, having to be checked. I Gundogdu had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 8 meetings to commence midnight 1 July, 2012 and to expire midnight 9 July, 2012. (2 metro, 6 provincial). In assessing penalty the Stewards were of the view that the incident qualified for the low range category of carelessness and took into account his good record and guilty plea.
Race 8 – WAREHOUSE SALES SHOWCASE 0-68 HANDICAP - 2000 metres:
East Verses West raced wide without cover in the early stages.
Near the 600 metres Almindoro shifted out abruptly taking East Verses West out onto Te Kawana (NZ) which was tightened for room between that runner and A Shade Better. A short distance later Georgian Queen, which was tiring, was steadied away from the heels of Heart Play and Power To Surprise (NZ), which was following, had to check to avoid the tiring runner.
Near the 500 metres Take A Bow was hampered when tightened between East Verses West and A Shade Better which shifted slightly.
Rounding the home turn Heart Play shifted out on two occasions and made contact with East Verses West.
C Newitt (Colossus Of Rhodes NZ) reported that in his opinion his mount failed to handle today’s track conditions. A subsequent veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.
Race 9 – SHOWCASE 0-62 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:
The start was delayed to replace the blinkers on Noble Twostep. It was established after the event that trainer R Hore-Lacy had not sought permission to fit blinkers on the filly and as a result was fined $100.
Noble Twostep was slow to begin.
Grand Sunday slipped behind on jumping.
During the running of the race Speedy Bullet lost the off fore plate.
B Rawiller (Belmaison) reported that his mount dipped on a number of occasions in the early stages and was reluctant to travel for the remainder of the event. A subsequent veterinary examination of Belmaison revealed a slower than normal recovery.
I Gundogdu (Secured NZ) reported that his mount was under pressure from the 800 metres and weakened badly from that point on. A subsequent veterinary examination of Secured (NZ) did not reveal any abnormality.
G Boss ( Miss Holyfield) reported that the filly felt uncomfortable in its action. A subsequent veterinary examination of Miss Holyfield did not reveal any abnormality.
Race 10 – TOBIN BROTHERS WERRIBEE 0-62 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:
Trainer R McDonald was fined $100 for the late notification of D Nikolic as the rider of Need To Exceed which was lodged on raceday.
Near the 1500 metres Pinski Belle shifted out bumping Need To Exceed out onto Mr Birchy.
Near the 1100 metres Torquay Road dipped in the going.
Torquay Road had to be checked inside the 400 metres when tightened for room between Christmas and Mawari which shifted out when tiring.
D Nikolic (Need To Exceed) reported that the gelding failed to handle the track conditions and was under pressure prior to the home turn.
Trainer N Walsh was fined $200 for presenting Mawari on course poorly shod resulting in the filly having to be re plated prior to the event.
Shinakuma (NZ), which settled at the rear of the field, was eased down from the 600 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer M Kent was notified that Shinakuma (NZ) now incurs the three month mandatory suspension from racing.
Both J Winks (Ladretto) and C Newitt (Christmas) reported that their respective mounts failed to handle today’s track conditions.

| Adjourned Inquiries: | Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding D Nikolic having an iPhone in his possession in the jockey’s room during the course of the race meeting. After taking evidence from D Nikolic regarding the circumstances of this matter, both the iPhone that was in his possession and a second iPhone, that was in his vehicle underwent forensic analysis. It was established that the iPhone in D Nikolic’s possession in the jockey’s room was found to have an inactive sim card. The matter was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed once investigations are completed. |
