Race 1 – TERRY DOOLAN SV 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:

Fast Impulse stood flat footed as the start was affected before jumping awkwardly and being slow in the stride (five lengths). Fast Impulse raced at the rear of the field throughout. Trainer S. Thompson was advised that a warning would be issued against the filly for its starting manners.

On jumping Techno Girl shifted in and bumped Coogee Rocks.

Coogee Rocks raced three wide without cover throughout before being placed under pressure and commencing to weaken from the 400m. Rider J. Lyon could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding that was having its first race start. A post race veterinary examination of Coogee Rocks did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Techno Girl, that was having its first race start, raced wide in the early stages before commencing to give ground from the 800m and being placed last. Rider J. Duffy could offer no explanation for the filly’s disappointing performance. Subsequent to the event connections of Techno Girl reported the filly that had experienced respiratory issues in the past, may have choked down and would now be retired from racing.

Upon straightening for the run to the finish, Run Forrest Run was held up behind the weakening On Ones Toes before obtaining a run to the inside of that gelding passing the 200m.

Race 2 –BERNIE HANNEBERY MAIDEN PLATE - 1590 metres: 

Belmorri jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride.

Approaching the 1200m Coin Toss, when being eased towards the rail at the rear of the field, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail, becoming unbalance and losing several lengths. A post race veterinary examination of Coin Toss revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Also approaching the 1200m, Dainty Sharnee shifted out making contact with the hind quarters of Belmorri, that shifted out abruptly as a consequence.

Passing the 1200m Dustie Dan became unbalanced, shifted in and made contact with the running rail. As a consequence Tallahatchie, Delago Lou and Antmuzik where all hampered. Antmuzik was subsequently obliged to race wide and without cover.

Our Clangalang that was trailing Dustie Dan passing the 1200m, shifted in also making contact with the rail at this point.

Shortly after passing the 1200m Sparkman had to be steadied away from the heels of Classic Gem when that mare was tightened by Cashmere that shifted in marginally. Scatilla that was trailing the leader also shifted out at this point, contributing to the interference received by Sparkman.

Rounding the home turn and for the majority of the home straight, Our Clangalang was unable to obtain clear running and went to the line having not been fully tested by its rider R. Plumb.

Upon return to the scales, rider L. Meech reported Sparkman hung in for the majority of the event.

Belmorri shifted out when laying out rounding the home turn.

Subsequent to the event rider J McNeil reported Dustie Dan felt uncomfortable in its action. A post race veterinary examination of Dustie Dan revealed that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg. Trainer L. Smith was notified she would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance prior to starting Dustie Dan again.

Rider J. Hill was questioned regarding his tactics and the performance of Bengee Boy. J. Hill stated despite his intentions to settle in a more forward position, Bengee Boy could not muster sufficient speed during the early stages and initially raced in restricted room to the inside of Sparkman, before being obliged to steady away from the heels of Sparkman near the 1200m . J Hill added Bengee Boy was disappointing and his comments were noted.

Race 3 – MONICA MAHER MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres: 

Prior to the running of this event trainer G. Duryea advised Friday Saviour would be ridden in a more forward position circumstances permitting. It was noted at Albury 14 May 2012, Friday Saviour was slow to begin and hampered at the start resulting in the gelding settling toward the rear of the field. In today’s event Friday Saviour settled in the one out one back position and was ridden accordingly.

Friday Saviour shifted out shortly after the start bumping with La Cible.

Riders J. Duffy (Musician) and J. Cartwright (Yarrara) were questioned regarding an incident at approximately the 900m were it appeared Musician had to be checked. On the evidence it was established Yarrara had been struck with a clod of dirt approaching the 900 and as a consequence commenced to race erratically getting its head up. Yarrara has shifted in resulting in Musician having to be checked and losing its rightful racing position. While the Panel accepted the racing manners of Yarrara contributed to the incident, J. Cartwright was nevertheless severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care.

Shortly after passing the 900m Yarrara, that was racing erratically, then had to be steadied away from the heels of Friday Saviour, that shifted in. Rider E. Marchant (Friday Saviour) was notified to exercised greater care in similar circumstances.

Riders J. Lyon (Sirrah) and J. Cartwright (Yarrara) were questioned regarding an incident approaching the 300m where it appeared Yarrara was checked. On the evidence it was established J. Lyon and J. Cartwright both attempted to obtain a run between One Smart Lady and La Cible. Yarrara was however steadied when Sirrah obtained such run. J. Lyon was reminded to exercise care however no further action was taken.

For a short distance rounding the home turn Musician and Stratilatis were held up for clear running.

Born To Survive had a tendency to shift out over the concluding stages.

Race 4 – WODONGA MEMBERSHIP $90 0 -62 HANDICAP - 1100 metres: 

Prior to the event, trainer Gwenda Johnstone confirmed New Avenue would be ridden with cover in todays event after the mare led and tired at Echuca 9 July 2012. New Avenue settled towards the rear of the field and was ridden accordingly.

Millionaire’s Baby jumped away awkwardly.

Bianbee was marginally slow to begin.

Shortly after passing the 800m No Prior Knowledge had to be steadied away from the heels of Armona and as a consequence shifted out inconveniencing Bianbee.

Bianbee raced wide and without cover throughout. Upon return to the scales, rider J. McNeil reported that in his opinion Bianbee was uncomfortable in its action. As a consequence rider J. McNeil stated he did not ride the mare out to the finish in his normal manner. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer G. Egan was notified that he must be in receipt of a veterinary clearance prior to Bianbee starting again.

Upon straightening for the run to the finish Millionaire’s Baby had to be steadied when tightened for room between New Avenue and Torgannah, which shifted in.

New Avenue was held up upon straightening for the run to the finish and until inside the 200m. New Avenue was then disappointed for a run inside the final 100m

Rider N. Souquet (Providential) accidently dropped his whip passing the 100m.

Race 5 – JACK MAHER CLASSIC - 1200 metres: 

Rider E. Marchant was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR.120(b) for accepting the ride upon Madam Maihem when he was unable to fulfil that engagement due to being overweight. M. Heagney was approved as the replacement rider upon Madam Maihem.

Leneva Star was marginally slow to begin.

Share The Pie and Pearl Fish bumped after the start.

Little Hero shifted in abruptly after the start before making contact with Share The Pie.  J. Lyon was spoken to advisedly regarding the manner in which Little Hero shifted ground.

Infinite Fortune and Sumakaray over raced during the early stages.

Passing the 900m Little Hero that was racing greenly, shifted out forcing Right Of Reply wider on the track.

Glowstick that hung out, raced wide and without cover throughout. Prior to straightening for the run to the finish Glowstick shifted out obliging Right Of Reply and Leneva Star wider on the track. S. Miller rider of Glowstick, explained that the gelding was having its first start the Victorian way of racing, which resulted in the gelding hanging out and was of the view that it would benefit from today’s race. A post race veterinary examination of Glowstick that weakened to be placed last, revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer P. Widdup will be advised a warning will be issued against the racing manners of Glowstick.

Approaching the 400m Coobury Prince had to be steadied away from the heels of Pearl Fish. Coobury Prince was eased towards the rail before being disappointed for a run at the 100m.

New Move had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.

Passing the 100m Share The Pie shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so hampered Pearl Fish that was taken out onto Right Of Reply.

Rider J. Lyan reported Little Hero raced greenly and had a tendency to lay in throughout.

Race 6 – McGRATH FAMILY BM72 HANDICAP - 1590 metres: 

As E. Marchant was unable to fulfil his engagement upon Mission Finder due to being overweight, Stewards permitted J. Hill to ride the gelding. E. Marchant and his manager were questioned regarding the timing in which trainer J. Thompson was advised E. Marchant would be unavailable. Despite some miscommunication, E. Marchant was advised it his ultimately his responsibility to ensure he does not accept rides for which he is unable to make the weight.

The start of Race 6 was delayed as Lughaat had to have Winkers applied after it was presented in the mounting yard with Blinkers, which is not part of its approved racing gear. R. Wellington the trainer of Lughaat was subsequently fined $50.

Sandpebble was marginally slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m The Consuminator that was trailing the leader, commenced to over race and shifted out hampering St James Lane. St James Lane was forced wider on the track for a brief distance before regaining its position to the outside of the leader.

Upon straightened for the run to the finish and until passing the 100m, Cudgewa was held up for clear running.

Sandpebble raced wide and without cover through the middle and latter stages before being placed under pressure rounding the home turn and weakening to be placed a distant last. Upon return to the scales, rider J. Fry reported the gelding may have a respiratory abnormality. A post race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Co-trainers J. and C. Ledger will be contacted following todays event to establish if anything had arisen that may explain the geldings performance.

During the running of the race Shamrock O’Haka lost its off fore plate.

J. Lyon was questioned regarding his tactics adopted on North Street that settled at the rear of the field, contrary to the gelding’s recent pattern of racing when occupying a forward position. J. Lyon stated he was instructed to settle the gelding towards the rear of the field as it had not been performing well when ridden closer to the pace. He further added that the gelding was having its fourth start since coming back from a lengthy spell. Trainer A. Chibnall confirmed todays instructions that North Street was to be ridden at the rear of the field due to the wide barrier draw and in an attempt to have the gelding finish its race off. North Street was ultimately placed sixth and A. Chibnall reminded of his obligation to advise the Stewards should he consider any future change in race tactics.

Race 7 – VINCE TOBIN 0 – 72 HANDICAP - 1100 metres: 

At the start Curlashot was slow in the stride and despite the efforts of its rider M. Heagney settled in a worst than middle field position.

Little Hope was tightened after the start between Indigo Dancer that shifted in marginally and Bitter Fun.

Prairie Gold raced three wide through the early and middle stages before obtaining the position outside the leader.

Prussian Knockout raced wide without cover throughout.

Curlashot was held up rounding the home turn before being checked off heels near the 200m and being eased wider on the track in search of clear running.

Passing the 200m Little Hope was disappointed for a run between the tiring race leader Bitter Fun and Praire Gold that shifted in marginally. Little Hope was again hampered passing the 100m by Praire Gold that was taken in marginally by First Print.

Race 8 – DENISE CASEY 0 – 58 HANDICAP - 1400 metres: 

Koorilla Park was presented in the mounting yard with Blinkers, which is not part of the geldings approved racing gear. Acting on an assurance from the gelding’s trainer D. O’Prey that Koorilla Park wore Blinkers at its most recent race start at Corowa 9 July 2012, Stewards permitted Koorilla Park to run in Blinkers today. Stewards notified D. O’Prey they will investigate the matter further with Racing NSW Stewards and notify him if any further action will be taken in regards to this matter.

Beerhall Dancer jumped away awkwardly making contact with the inside of its barrier and as a consequence settled at the rear of the field.

Rider E. Marchant reported Indigo Belle slipped shortly after the start and for this reason settled further back than anticipated.

Dance Crew over raced through the early stages getting its head up.

Riders L. Londregan (Dance Crew) and E. Marchant (Indigo Belle) were questioned regarding an incident passing the 1000m where Indigo Belle seemed to lose its rightful racing position. On the evidence it was established Dance Crew was over racing significantly when racing in restricted room between First Defence and Indigo Belle. Dance Crew and Indigo Belle have jostled for position for a short distance before E. Marchant has eased Indigo Belle and shifted to the rail to afford Dance Crew greater racing room. Stewards noted the circumstances.

Riders L. Londregan (Dance Crew) and J. Duffy (Kinnon) were questioned regarding an incident at approximately the 600m were it appeared Kinnon had to be checked. On the evidence it was established Kinnon was steadied by its rider when crossed by Dance Crew. L. Londregan was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when not fully two lengths clear, however the Panel accepted Kinnon over-reacted to being eased, getting its head up.

Kenona Lass and Koorilla Park both raced wide without cover throughout.

When quested regarding the performance of Coco Dan that performed below market expectations, rider J. Hill acknowledged Coco Dan was disappointing, however from the wide barrier draw Coco Dan was obliged to race wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination of Coco Dan revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Rider L. Londregan (Dance Crew) will be reminded of his obligations with regards to his whip use when out of contention.
