Other Comments / Explanations:

Stewards accept the explanations of trainers D. McCarthy and L. Aalbers for their late rider notifications.

Race 1PARKSIDE PRODUCE 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres:

Approaching the 800m Ollican (E. Marchant) shifted in which resulted in Doubt It having to be eased out over the heels of that gelding. E. Marchant was severely reprimanded and advised that in future he would be expected to do far more to prevent his mounts shifting ground when not clear of other runners.

In the straight Fear De Beer had a tendency to lay in.

Also in the straight Galaxy Dane brushed the running rail on several occasions.

Race 2BILL MCGRATH CIVIL ENGINEERING MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres:

Correct weight was delayed while E. Marchant, rider of Polish Rose (second place getter), viewed the official photo finish after which he was satisfied that he had run second and Stewards declared correct weight.

At the start Del Mishel jumped outwards and hampered Help Me.

Currayoung and Polish Rose were both slow to begin.

Over the concluding stages of the race Willowvale Lad had a tendency to lay in under pressure.

N. Souquet rider of The Enforcer, which performed below expectations, stated to the Stewards that the horse was beaten on the home turn and that he believed the gelding may be suffering from wind problems. A post-race veterinary examination of The Enforcer revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr P. Maher advised the Stewards that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

C. Parish rider of Currayoung, which was slow to work into the race, stated that the mare showed no early speed and took some time after he commenced to urge the mare forward to respond to his riding. He also stated that the seven year old mare, which was having its first start in a race, may need a longer distance to perform to her best.

Race 3MCHARG SOLICITORS MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres:

Correct weight was delay while N. Souquet, rider of Reaction Man viewed the official Stewards Patrol footage with the view of lodging an objection on the grounds of interference. After viewing the footage N. Souquet decided not to lodge an objection and Stewards declared correct weight.

By His Design (NZ) was slow to begin.

Near the 1200m Bourbon King rolled in and brushed the running rail.

Sevenhundredlarge, which raced ungenerously throughout the race also raced wide without cover.

After passing the 200m Lingering had to be steadied when shifting in and away from The Blue Angel.

Passing the 50m The Blue Angel had a tendency to lay in and then raced tightly with Reaction Man.

R. Beattie rider of Sevenhundredlarge, which performed poorly, stated that the horse proved difficult to ride with a tendency to lay in and then later to lay out and was generally untractable. Mr R. Macklan, trainer of Sevenhundredlarge, was notified that a warning would be placed against the gelding and if it should perform in a similar manner in the future further action may be taken.

Race 4JARDINE LLOYD THOMPSON 0 – 68 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

Acting on an assurance from Mr D. McCarthy, trainer of Dance Man, that a veterinary certificate in respect to the gelding had been faxed to the Racing Victoria offices, Stewards permitted the gelding the start in the race. Stewards also ordered the clubs veterinary surgeon to inspect the gelding prior to its participation in this race.

Correct weight was delayed while E. Marchant, rider of Solar Strike (second place getter), viewed the official photo finish after which he was satisfied that he had run second.

Correct weight was also delayed while J. Duffy rider of Munderoo (fourth place getter) viewed the official Stewards Patrol footage with a view of lodging an object on the grounds of alleged interference by Prairie Gold (third place getter) in the early part of the straight, after viewing the footage J. Duffy decided to lodge an objection. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the Patrol Footage of the incident Stewards upheld the protest, amended the placings and declared correct weight.

Snip Esprit was slow to begin.

Passing the 400m Munderoo was held up for a short distance when unable to obtain clear running to move forward.

B. Loy, rider of Prairie Gold, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that after passing the 200m he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Munderoo, which was taken in and had to be checked, and Shot Of Blue, which clipped the heels of Munderoo and nearly fell. B. Loy had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence on Midnight Friday 28 December 2012 and to conclude Midnight Sunday 6 January 2013, a total of ten race meetings (three Metro / seven Provincial). In reaching penalty Stewards took into account B. Loy’s guilty plea, his inexperience and the fact that he had not been previously suspended.

Race 5KELSEY WATTS MEMORIAL 0 – 62 HANDICAP - 1600 metres:

Godfrey jumped away awkwardly.

Shamrock O’Haka was slow to begin.

Near the 1200m Godfrey, Shamrock O’Haka and Forbidden Rule all shifted in and brushed the running rail when straightening after taking the turn at the 1200m.

In the middle stages of the race Shamrock O’Haka had a tendency to over race and near the 900m got its head up on several occasions when being restrained by its rider.

Prior to straightening Prancing was held up behind Godfrey for a short distance.

N. Souquet rider of Lord Wolsey, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that approaching the 100m he allowed his mount to shift in when being ridden along, when not sufficiently clear of Godfrey which was taken in and hit the running rail before making contact with Prancing which resulted in its rider K. Grace being dislodged and J. Duffy, rider of Prancing, becoming extremely unbalanced and his mount being hampered. Shamrock O’Haka which was racing to the outside of Prancing was also hampered as a consequence. During this incident J. Duffy, rider of Prancing lost the use of his offside iron which left him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. N. Souquet had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at Midnight Wednesday 26th December 2012 and to conclude Midnight Wednesday 16 January 2013, a total of  twenty four race meetings (6 Metro / 18 Provincial). In reaching penalty Stewards took into account N. Souquet’s guilty plea and his excellent riding record.

K. Grace, rider of Godfrey was examined by the clubs doctor and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagement.

Race 6NORDCON LAND 0 – 58 HANDICAP - 1400 metres:

On arrival on course Rockinconi, which had not raced since November 2011, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.

Correct weight was delayed while B. Loy, rider of Illusive Gail (third place getter) viewed the official Stewards Patrol footage with the view of lodging an objection on the grounds of interference. After viewing the footage B. Loy decided not to lodge an objection and Stewards declared correct weight.

Regal Christabel was slow to begin.

During the middle stages of the race Moscow was obliged to race wide without cover.

After passing the 100m Illusive Gail had to change course to avoid the heels of Little Jo (O. Ay), which rolled in under pressure. O. Ay was advised that he would be expected to show more care in future when shifting ground, than he did on this occasion.

Miss S. Noble rider of Regal Christabel was reminded of her obligations in respect to the use of her whip on a beaten horse. Stewards took into consideration that Miss Noble has had limited riding experience.

N. Souquet rider of Cashere Miss, which performed below expectations, stated that he believed the horse may have jarred up. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no abnormalities.
